Job Posting Grey Roots Museum and Archives Conservator (YCW in Heritage Institutions Conservation Science Internship) 18 weeks beginning Monday, November 23, 2015, 35 hours/week (Salary Range: $16.58 / Hour) Grey Roots Museum & Archives is looking for an engaged and dedicated post-secondary graduate who has graduated within the past 24 months from an accredited Canadian Museum Conservation program and is looking for conservation experience. The Conservator will perform conservation treatments on specific wooden and textile artefacts in the museum’s permanent artefact collection. Grey Roots is home to Museum, Archives, Tourism services as well as Moreston Heritage Village for local visitors and travelers. Duration: Duties: -Clean and perform conservation treatments on an historic wooden vehicle collection with metal, glass and leather components -Perform conservation treatments on historic textiles pieces with beaded and cotton components -Help move historic vehicle collection to a new storage and display location -Research and locate sources for specialized mounts for identified large wooden vehicles using best museum practice In order to meet the funding criteria on which this 18-week internship depends, candidates must be graduates of post-secondary institutions who have graduated in the last 24 months and ideally from an accredited Canadian Museum Conservation program. Candidates are punctual and possess excellent communication skills, verbal and written, along with strong organization skills. Possessing a driver’s license is a benefit. The selected candidate will be responsible, able to follow directions well, and demonstrate an ability to work with minimal supervision. A keen interest in local history is also an asset. The ability to climb a ladder is necessary. Comfort using computers and office software is an asset. Strength to lift 50lbs is an asset. Necessary training and support will be provided. Overtime, evening and weekend hours may be required.
