European Research Council 4-year PhD studentships UK/EU/*International students are all eligible to apply Division of Biomedical Cell Biology, Warwick Medical School, University of Warwick You will join the laboratory of Professor Mohan Balasubramanian (Wellcome Trust Senior Investigator) in the Division of Biomedical Cell Biology at Warwick Medical School and make a positive contribution to his research that aims to understand the mechanism and regulation of cytokinesis [For key references see 1. Mishra, M. et al. (2013 Nature Cell Biology 15: 853-859. 2. Huang, J. et al. (2012) J Cell Biology 199: 831-847. 3. Padmanabhan, A et al. (2011) Current Biology 21: 467-472. 4. Huang, Y., et al. In particular, you will develop methods to study, through high resolution imaging approaches, actin filament localization and polarity and will develop an in vitro system to assemble cytokinetic actomyosin rings using purified components. Ambitious candidates will also have the opportunity to investigate the evolutionary conservation of the process in collaboration with researchers working on C. elegans and zebrafish. The work involves yeast cell biology, classical and molecular genetics, live-cell imaging, recombinant protein expression, protein purification and function determination. You will have good interpersonal skills and ability to work well in a research team enjoying critical but constructive conversation and the potential to produce publications in high-impact peer-reviewed journals. You will have a BSc, BSc (honors) or MSc in a relevant field and a solid knowledge of cell biology as evidenced from previous course work and laboratory experience. Experience in working with genetically tractable organisms, including metazoans, and in particular yeasts, will be a strong advantage. The studentship is available to Home and EU students, according to fee status, that meet Research Council eligibly requirements based on residency. *International students can also apply but will be expected to raise the fee difference between UK/EU and the overseas rate from other sources. The studentship includes full fees for the successful student along with a tax free maintenance allowance in line with Research Council UK standard stipend (£14,057 for 2015/16). The closing date for applications is 21st August 2015. Interviews will be held on 31st August 2015 at the University of Warwick. Apply on line, selecting MPhil/PhD in Medical Sciences (RMDA-A34P) and include a full CV and a covering letter with your application form explaining how your skills meet the requirements, what you can bring to the post and why the post interests you. http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/med/study/researchdegrees/admissions/ Please also send your CV and covering letter directly to Professor Mohan Balasubramanian (m.k.balasubramanian@warwick.ac.uk) with the subject line as “ERC PhD Studentship Application”.
