Scot Hockman
R. Scot Hockman is the Education Associate for the Visual and Performing Arts at the South Carolina
Department of Education. He is a former chair of the South Carolina Art Education Association, South
Carolina Alliance for Arts Education and a former member of the Kennedy Center Alliance for Arts
Education Network (KCAAEN) Leadership Committee. He is a recipient of the SC Association for
Supervision and Curriculum Development Teacher of the Year Award and the National Art Education
Association Middle Level Art Educator of the Year. In 2012, he was awarded the Elizabeth O’Neill Verner
Governor’s Awards for the Arts. Currently, Scot was writer for the National Coalition for Core Arts
Standards Media Arts Standards. He consults on topics that include arts integration, arts literacy,
STEAM, Common Core State Standards, educator evaluation, and grant writing.
Dr. Rex Jung
Rex Jung is an assistant professor of neurosurgery at the University of New Mexico, a research
scientist at the Mind Research Network, and a practicing clinical neuropsychologist in Albuquerque,
New Mexico. He studies both brain disease and what the brain does well—a field of research known as
"positive neuroscience. His research is designed to relate behavioral measures, including intelligence,
personality, and creativity, to brain function and structure in healthy, neurological, and psychiatric
subjects. He has published research articles across a wide range of disciplines, including traumatic
brain injury, lupus, schizophrenia, intelligence, and creativity.
Michael Long, MFA, ND
Michael Long, visual artist, writer and educator, holds an MFA degree from the University of Colorado
and a BFA degree from the College of Santa Fe. He also studied painting at the Art Students League in
New York. In addition, he earned a Doctorate of Naturopathy from Clayton College of Natural Health. He
has used his holistic and creative approach to teach fine art for over twenty-five years including at the
University of Colorado, Santa Fe Photography Workshops, Eastern New Mexico University, University of
Hawaii, Dar al-Kalima College (Bethlehem, Palestine), The Contemporary Museum (Austin, TX) and at
many public and private K-12 schools. He has exhibited extensively nationally and internationally. He
recently self-published a book titled ART JUMPSTARTS: 107 Playful Mixed Media Exercises to Inspire
Creative Flow.
Dr. Yann Lussiez
Dr. Yann Lussiez currently works for the Legislative Finance Committee as a Program Evaluator
providing programmatic and budgetary recommendations that improve performance and increase
accountability for higher education and public schools. Previously, he served as a charter school
director at Rio Gallinas School for Ecology and the Arts, primary school principal, MEF International
School, Istanbul, Turkey, and principal at El Dorado Community School. He has been a K-12 art teacher,
high school French Teacher, elementary teacher, and Peace Corp Volunteer in the Central African
Republic. An avid photographer and painter, Dr. Lussiez has made numerous presentations on his
doctoral work on the role of empathy in leadership, creating caring communities, and the relationship
between social emotional learning and the arts.
