SSITS Season Opener 2015, is a Class 1 sanctioned competition member of Equine
Canada, and is governed by the rules of the Federation.
Statement of Principle:
The Equine Canada, the National Federation of Canada, supports adherence to humane treatment of horses in
all competitions under its jurisdiction.
The Equine Canada is committed to:
 Upholding the welfare of horses, regardless of value, as a primary consideration in all activities.
 Requiring that horses be treated with kindness, respect and the compassion that they deserve, and that
they never be subjected to mistreatment.
 Ensuring that owners, trainers, exhibitors and their agents use responsible care in the handling,
treatment and transportation of their horses as well as horses placed in their care for any purpose.
 Providing for the continuous well-being of horses by encouraging routine inspection and consultation
with health care, professionals and competition officials to achieve the highest possible standards of
nutrition, health, comfort, sanitation and safety as a matter of standard operating procedure.
 Continuing to support scientific studies on equine health and welfare.
 Increasing education in training and horsemanship practices.
 Requiring owners, trainers and exhibitors to know and follow their sanctioning organizations’s rules and
to work within the industry regulations in all equestrian competitions.
 Reviewing, revising, and developing competition rules and regulations that protect the welfare of
horses.
The standard by which conduct or treatment will be measured is that which a reasonable person, informed and
experienced in generally accepted equine training and exhibition procedures, would determine to be neither
cruel, abusive nor inhumane.
GENERAL RULES AND REGULATIONS
The SSITS SEASON OPENER will be run under Equine Canada Rules.
Management reserves the right to cancel or combine any given class that does not fill to their
satisfaction. This show is open to all; however the SSITS Show Committee reserves the right to
refuse any entry.
Management reserves the right to make changes of judges or class order to facilitate time
schedule and condition, and the right to start the first class of any session 30 minutes earlier than
the scheduled time if entries warrant.

Entries payable by cash or cheque. Payment is due by entry close or will be considered a late
entry and charged accordingly. Emailed entries will be accepted if followed with a chq in the
mail.
A parent or legal guardian must sign the entry for a Junior exhibitor and the junior’s birth date
must be given.
Insurance: For insurance purposes, all competitors (owners, owner/agents and riders) must be
fully paid and current Equine Canada & BC Horse Council members.
Dogs: All dogs must be on a leash on the show grounds please.
Scratches: PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY OF THE SHOW - Exhibitors canceling after closing
date shall forfeit their entry fees except in the case of disability of entry. Entries will be
refunded only upon the presentation to the Show Secretary a certificate of disability from a
qualified Veterinarian PRIOR TO THE FIRST DAY OF THE SHOW. A $25.00 fee or 15% of
entry (whichever is greater) will be charged on all cancellations.
Post Entries: Entries will be accepted at Base Cost + $40.00.
Changes: There will be a $5.00 office charge per add/scratch sheet if done the day before the
competition starts for horses already entered prior to closing date. AN OPEN CHEQUE MUST
BE PRESENTED TO THE HORSE SHOW SECRETARY WHEN PICKING UP NUMBER.
ALL CHANGES MUST BE MADE NO LATER THAN 1/2 HOUR AFTER THE LAST CLASS
OF THE DAY. LATE AND SAME DAY CHANGES WILL BE CHARGED $10.00.
Entered and Did not Compete: Any exhibitor who does not compete in class(s) in which the
exhibitor is officially entered, and does not scratch according to the Scratch Procedures outlined
above, will be billed for the class(s).
EQUINE CANADA ENTRY AGREEMENT: By entering the SSITS SEASON OPENER and
signing the entry blank as owner, Lessee, Trainer, Manager, Agent, Coach, Driver, Rider,
Handler, and on behalf of myself and my principals, representatives, employees and agents, I
agree that I am subject to the Bylaws and Rules of the EC and the local rules of the competition. I
agree to be bound by the Bylaws and Rules of the EC. I will accept as final the decision of the
Hearing Committee on any question arising and the Rules, and agree to release and hold harmless
the competition, the EC, their officials, directors and employees for any action taken under the
Rules I represent that I am eligible to enter and/or participate under the rules, and every horse I
am entering is eligible as entered. Any horse entered in any class at a competition may, while on
the competition grounds may be selected for equine medication control testing.

Protests: Should any question or dispute arise not provided for in these rules, it shall be referred
to the Show Committee whose decision will be final.
Warm up: Hunter warm up available on Thursday, starting at 8am.
Stabling: Stabling is available beginning Wednesday, April 15th, 7am, and ending Sunday
6:00pm. Limited stabling so please enter early - $140 4 days, $110 3 days, – if you can’t find
someone to share a stall with contact Judy for assistance.
Paramedic Fee: $10 per horse.
Protective Headgear: Must be worn at all Primary, Provincial, National Equine Canada & USEF
sanctioned competitions. All competitors must wear proper fitting, approved protective headgear,
with the safety harness correctly secured at all times while mounted on competition or event
grounds. Approved headgear must meet the ASTM standards and displays the SEI seal. The
British standard is also acceptable. Any rider violating this rule at any time will be immediately
prohibited from further riding until such headgear is properly in place.
Hors Concours – Are not allowed in the hunter ring and will be allowed in the jumper ring at the
discretion of management. If you need extra hunter trips that day please enter the SSITS
schooling hunter, Class 911 on the day entries only. To be judged but no ribbons awarded.

will have some flat work incorporated into the course, A prize is awarded to the winner of each
competition at SSITS Season Opener and Sun Bowl and Year End Finals. Points awarded 10,
8, 7, 6, etc. The top ten qualified riders are eligible for the finals with a grand prize awarded to
the winner. Fences .65m, no oxers, open to all but no cross entry .75m and higher.

. This competition is judged on the riders form, effective harmony with their mount and
economy of effort over a Table A type jumper track. At least one combination is required in
the course. Three scores to be announced. A score out of 100 for the round, up to 5 bonus
points for displaying efficiency in track in good form and a total score.

Since 2006 Greenhawk Vancouver Island has been bringing our passion for horses and
equestrian sport to the island’s horse community. Located in the heart of the Brentwood Bay
Village, we are just a 25-minute drive from downtown Victoria and a two-minute drive from the
Mill Bay ferry terminal.
Greenhawk Vancouver Island is proud to sponsor the Greenhawk Vancouver Island
Jumper Series Open to all .9m horse/rider combos that ride at 1m or lower. Points will
be awarded at the rate of 1- 12pts, 1st- 12, 2nd- 10, 3rd 9 etc. Finals will be held in
September at SSITS Finale The top 15 point totals of the year will qualify for the
final. If space available non qualified competitors may enter.

BONITA STABLES is proud to sponsor the BONITA STABLES .75m Jumper Series this
year. The course will consist of up to twelve jumping
efforts. Simulated natural obstacles such as a stone wall,
picket fence, 3 and 4 bar fences may be included as well
as colored versions of such. The BONITA STABLES
