Day1: - Introduction to the library Introduction to OHS Introduction to Information Desk tasks Returning Issuing Shelving Day2: - Assisting in getting the library ready to be open for public Returning Assisting the children librarian with Story time Introduction to the holiday programs like BookBug Shelving Signing up new members of the library on the Information Desk Doing shelf checks for librarians from other branches Day3: - Went through the opening procedure of the library with one of the librarians: Michael Went through the staff hierarchy from management down to the lowest level of staff Helped one of the librarians: Michael with the Information Desk tasks: Shelf checks, signing up new members, looking up items of the library for public Went through the databases that the library subscribes for Day 4 – Spent at Cheltenham Library: - Assisted the staff in the opening procedure (Wiping all mice, keyboards, phones with sanitizers, made sure there was enough A4 sheets in printers) Spent sometime going through the databases the library subscribes for in detail Went through ILL process with one of the librarians Lunch break spent with fellow staff members Went over the management of Audio Visual items in the library with the AV manager Day5: - Observed at the information desk with one of the librarians – Michael Observed one of the librarians – Michael, giving computer classes to a group of elderly about Google Observed with one of the librarians – Jan at the information desk, and a brief chat about ILL Day6: - Helped opening with other staff members (returns, shelving, etc...) Helped a staff member with the Community Bus program – a group of older people gathering and chatting over coffee and biscuits Observed a librarian on the information desk - Had a chat with the IT person at the library about the variety of tasks the IT team performs Had a chat with the coordinator about the variety of tasks she handles Information desk Shelving Day7 – Spent at Chelsea branch: - Tour around the library Story time Information desk Chat with the branch manager about the tasks she handles as a manager Shelving Day8: - Opening with other staff members Home library service overview with one of the staff who’s responsible for HLS Information desk Attended a talk organised by the library to public who are interested in Genealogy A chat with one of the librarians who’s responsible for the LOTE section of all branches Day9: - Opening with the staff members A chat with the union representative about the employee’s rights and responsibilities Shelving Information desk A chat with one of the librarians about the services the library offers in the area of Genealogy Day10: - Opening with the staff members Chat with the operations and building manager Shelving Fine sorting Information desk Day 11: - Opening with other staff members Shelving Returning Issuing Booking internet for public Information desk Day12: - Opening with other staff members Shelving Returning Day13: - Shelving Returning Day14: - A chat with the collection manager Sticking bar codes and library stickers on Audio CDs Day 15: - Opening with other staff members Returning Shelving
