Example:
Among caregivers of people with dementia residing in the community does relaxation or music therapy interventions compared
to no relaxation or music therapy interventions affect levels of anxiety, depression, and institutionalization?
Population: caregivers of people with dementia residing in the community
Intervention: relaxation or music therapy interventions
Control: no psychosocial interventions
Outcomes: anxiety, depression, and institutionalization of person with dementia
6.
Why is your research question important? Please provide a short rationale for selecting this question (preferably
not more than 100 words).

Example:
Anxiety is common among the caregivers of people with dementia and those with anxiety are also more likely to have
poorer physical health and less effective coping styles (1). Research studies and systematic reviews demonstrate the
usefulness of relaxation and music therapy for reducing anxiety symptoms among caregivers (e.g.) (2,3). However, it is not
clear whether relaxation and music therapy are useful in reducing symptoms among caregivers that reside in the
community with their loved ones (versus living apart). A systematic review of the literature of controlled clinical trials may
demonstrate whether specific strategies should be targeted toward specific groups of caregivers.

Please provide references to at least 2 RCTs that meet your envisioned eligibility criteria to demonstrate that
relevant studies are actually available and so that you do not have to change the topic of your review during the
course due to lack of relevant studies.

You will need one or more review partners whose responsibilities will include helping with study selection (i.e.
title and abstract screening, full text screening), data abstraction and, optionally, with assessment of risk of bias
in individual studies and overall quality of evidence for each outcome across studies. The time commitment
required for your second reviewer(s) will be at least 10 hours depending on the scope of your review. Hence,
your second reviewer(s) should also have basic understanding of the subject matter and critical appraisal. Please
make sure that your partner understands the commitment and agrees to participate. If your partner is a student
taking this course you must have different research questions.
