Program: ☐ MSc ☐ PhD Please note: You must complete this form to be considered for HRM773. Permissions will be assessed as they are received. However, please expect to wait 2-3 weeks for a response. Space is limited in all online HRM courses. Therefore, permissions are valid for two weeks from date of approval to ensure students register in a timely manner. Please submit your completed form to Dr. Soo Chan Carusone (chansy@mcmaster.ca) 1. Do you have the appropriate course prerequisites (HRM 721/771 & HRM 702)? If not, please describe your equivalent course-based or professional experience. ☐ Yes ☐ No ☐ Yes ☐ No Click here to enter text. 2. Have you taken the anti-requisite (HRM743)? 3. Why do you want to take this online course instead of its class-based equivalent? Click here to enter text. 4. Each student will be assigned to a tutorial group. Tutorials will be held at the end of each week via the McMaster web conferencing tool, MacLive (Elluminate). Please select your preferred tutorial time and we will do our best to accommodate your preference ☐ Friday 08:00 AM EST ☐ Friday 12:00 PM EST ☐ Doesn’t matter 5. Example: Among caregivers of people with dementia residing in the community does relaxation or music therapy interventions compared to no relaxation or music therapy interventions affect levels of anxiety, depression, and institutionalization? Population: caregivers of people with dementia residing in the community Intervention: relaxation or music therapy interventions Control: no psychosocial interventions Outcomes: anxiety, depression, and institutionalization of person with dementia 6. Why is your research question important? Please provide a short rationale for selecting this question (preferably not more than 100 words). Click here to enter text. Example: Anxiety is common among the caregivers of people with dementia and those with anxiety are also more likely to have poorer physical health and less effective coping styles (1). Research studies and systematic reviews demonstrate the usefulness of relaxation and music therapy for reducing anxiety symptoms among caregivers (e.g.) (2,3). However, it is not clear whether relaxation and music therapy are useful in reducing symptoms among caregivers that reside in the community with their loved ones (versus living apart). A systematic review of the literature of controlled clinical trials may demonstrate whether specific strategies should be targeted toward specific groups of caregivers. You will need one or more review partners whose responsibilities will include helping with study selection (i.e. title and abstract screening, full text screening), data abstraction and, optionally, with assessment of risk of bias in individual studies and overall quality of evidence for each outcome across studies. The time commitment required for your second reviewer(s) will be at least 10 hours depending on the scope of your review. Hence, your second reviewer(s) should also have basic understanding of the subject matter and critical appraisal. Please make sure that your partner understands the commitment and agrees to participate. If your partner is a student taking this course you must have different research questions. You will need support from a librarian experienced in searching health sciences databases who can assist you in developing and executing your search strategy.
