Objective: To demonstrate plate movement by creating a stop-motion animation video that will be shared with classmates and on-line.
You and your partners are going to
1.
Demonstrate how convection currents in the mantle are responsible for plate movement.
2.
Show the how the layers of the earth interact (mantle, crust, asthenosphere, lithosphere).
3.
Show how plate movement can be a constructive or destructive force.
Steps:
1.
Your group will need to create a story board to act as a rough draft of your video. Each major step of the plate movement process needs to be drawn out in advance of the photography portion. This helps you determine how you will depict the plate movement and what materials you will need to use in your animation
2.
Gather your materials.
3.
Begin taking photos. You will need to take approximately 250 pictures for a smooth 1 minute of video.
*
Start with a beginning, such as a ball of clay at the end of a table, and take your first photo.
It’s important to only move your object and not the camera. If you don’t have a tripod, you must keep your camera very still otherwise your video will be choppy and move around on the screen.
After you’ve taken your first photograph, move the object (the ball of clay) slightly in the direction you want it to travel and take another photo. Move it again by the same distance, and take one more. Continue this until the clay ball reaches where you want it to stop, just make sure that whatever movement your object makes is done slowly over several frames.
Finally, if you make a mistake while shooting, delete that picture on your camera and take another. This will save you from having to edit your film later
