SELECTION OF MIDDLE SCHOOL LIAISONS TO STUDENT CONGRESS
2014-2015
Shelby County Schools Office of Student Behavior/Student Leadership will hold its first Middle School
Student Congress meeting on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 from 3:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. at BRIDGES,
477 N. Fifth Street. Middle school principals are asked to select two (2) eighth grade students to serve as
Middle School Liaisons for the 2014-2015 academic year.
Purpose:
 Establish the district-wide Student Congress as a mechanism for increasing students’ voices in the
District
 Enhance the educational experience of students
 Allow the Board to gain greater insight into educational needs from the students’ point of
view
Composition of Middle School Liaisons:
 8th grade middle school students – up to two (2) from each participating middle school
Selection Process for Middle School Liaisons:
 Selected by student body or the middle school principal
Meetings:
 Board – up to two (2) times each year, once each semester
 Superintendent – meet once each year
 Student Congress – meet once each semester with High School Congresspersons
Please have your 2014-2015 student representatives complete the attached profile forms and mail to
