SELECTION OF STUDENT CONGRESS 2013-2014
Shelby County Schools Student Congress will hold its first meeting on Tuesday, October 8, 2013
from 9:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at BRIDGES, 477 N. Fifth Street. The Student Congress is comprised
of high school students from all forty-six public high schools in the Shelby County Schools
Unified District. Please select two (2) members of your Student Council to serve as your
representatives for the 2013-2014 academic year, preferably one (1) junior and one (1) senior.
Student representatives should be knowledgeable of educational issues and their impact on
students; able to effectively communicate student concerns in group discussions with other
representatives; be knowledgeable of district’s student policies, able to attend district meetings
and conferences, able to make up any class assignments/exams in a timely manner, and carry a
minimum GPA of 3.0. In addition, two Congresspersons will be selected by the Congress to
serve as non-voting members of the Unified District’s School Board. Students should dress
casually with comfortable shoes.
Please have your 2013-2014 representatives complete the attached profile forms and mail to
Behavior & Student Leadership, Loc. 8172, Rt. 2, or fax at 416-4221 (Attention:: Janice
