DENVER BRONCOS QUOTES (1/21/16) TE VERNON DAVIS On what he’s learned from QB Peyton Manning “He’s a leader. He exemplifies what it takes to be a hard worker, not just physically, but mentally as well. What he brings to the game is extraordinary. When I got here, I had a chance to cultivate the relationship with him and just get to know him one-onone and what I saw is a Hall-of-Famer. I saw a guy who was relentless when it comes to the game of football. He’s everything you want in a quarterback and he’s just been an awesome teammate.” On why players like Manning are so rare “Just being around for 10 years and getting to know different quarterbacks and cultivating a relationship there, I think when it comes to a guy like Peyton, he’s just different. The way he approaches the game — even when we’re in meetings, everything the coach says, he’s writing it down and I’m looking, and I’m like, ‘Wow, I look at myself as a leader, but when I look at him, he’s on another level.’ I love being around guys like that. It’s been a great opportunity for me to be able to sit besides him in those meetings and see what he’s doing, because I’m year ten and he’s in front of me, so I know there’s something that I can learn — there’s a lot that I can learn from him. And just the little things. Like taking notes when the head coach is talking in the meeting rooms. He’s probably the only guy that’s taking notes because we’re not required to take notes when coach is talking, but he does it because that’s just who he is. It’s what he represents. That’s why I say he’s just a different breed. He’s a different guy, not only is he a great football player, he’s also a great person.” On how he would characterize his experience in Denver “Coming here, I expected myself to jump right in and be Superman. But that’s not what happened. I’m sure everyone else expected same to do the same thing, but unfortunately, everything doesn’t go the way we always plan it to and one thing in life, we have to be patient. And we have to know that no matter what goes on in our life, when there’s adversity, and when things don’t seem to work, you have to continue to fight; you have to keep working even harder. That’s one thing I’ve learned along my career. That’s when you’re supposed to work even harder. And that’s what I’ve been doing. I’ve been studying and catching extra balls and just taking it to that next level because you never know when your time is going to come.” ©2016 Denver Broncos Football Club. All rights reserved.
