Omaha: Something Old... Lots New Tour Tuesday-Thursday, April 12-14, 2016 Tuesday, April 12 Omaha After taking a year off, it’s time to return to Omaha with a few highlights from past visits and some exciting and very interesting new adventures. Five new attractions have been added, and this year we’ll be staying at the beautiful Ramada Plaza. Bring your appetites for some great included meals. We’ll make a fast food stop in Sioux City, Iowa, en route. Then the excitement begins! Our tour will begin with a Historical Driving Tour. We’ll drive by Warren Buffet’s house and the birth-site of President Gerald Ford. We’ll stop at Pioneer Courage Park (This is unbelievably awesome!) where you can walk among a nearly life-size sculpture replica of an 1850’s wagon train. Next we’ll check into the Ramada Plaza, our home for the next two evenings. Time will be allowed to relax and freshen up. Our evening destination is a Greek Evening at St. John’s Greek Orthodox Church. We’ll tour 100 year old St. John’s and learn the background of their religion. Then we’ll enjoy an included Greek dinner consisting of Kota Riganoto (chicken Greek style) with potatoes or rice, vegetable dish, salad, beverage and Baklava for dessert. Our visit will conclude with a Greek dancing demonstration. Then we’ll return to the Ramada Plaza for the evening with a busy day ahead. Wednesday, April 13 Omaha As we begin day two with an included breakfast buffet, we’ll be treated to a Ukrainian “Linens & Traditions” Presentation by Olesia Reprichowskij, who brings various Ukrainian linens and gives us an entertaining presentation about the linens’ connection to Ukrainian history, customs and traditions. Olesia will have us laughing while educating us about life in the Ukraine. All proceeds go to restore a historic church in the Ukraine. We’ll then depart for a Hindu Temple Tour. We’ll learn about the Hindu religion as we view the beautiful architecture and sculptures in the temple. We will be required to remove our shoes. Hungry? Our next stop is an included French lunch at LeVoltaire Restaurant and a presentation by owner and chef Cedric Fichepain. (Lunch options are on page three of this brochure.) Our next stop is the world famous Father Flanagan’s Boys Town. An actual working town, Boys Town is an inspirational stop. We’ll visit the hall of history to learn the interesting history of this city of children. We’ll view beautiful chapels and tour the restored 1920’s home of Father Flanagan. Upon request, Boys Town will also send you a video of the famous 1930’s movie “Boys Town” with Spencer Tracy and Mickey Rooney. A short time to visit the gift shop will be allowed. Then we’ll return to the Ramada Plaza to relax and freshen up. Our evening destination is the German American Society where we’ll be treated to an included German Dinner with Entertainment. Finally, we’ll return to the Ramada Plaza. Day two is complete. Thursday, April 14 Home After an included hot breakfast buffet, our final day begins with a Lithuanian Bakery Presentation. We’ll listen to the Machevicius family talk about their family escaping Germany in WWII and moving to Omaha to start a bakery business. There will be samples. You will definitely be impressed! Our second stop of the day will be the Durham Museum which is dedicated to preserving and displaying the history of the United States’ western region. The museum is housed in Omaha’s former Union Station. Our final stop in Omaha has been featured on the Food Channel. We’ll enjoy an included 2 piece oven fried chicken dinner with mashed potatoes and gravy, cornbread, homemade ice cream and beverage. Our visit to Omaha is complete and we’re on our way back to Minnesota with a fast food stop and lots to talk about on our way home after three great days of awesome attractions and many great memories!
