GOD IS LOVE Dear Parents and Carers, Welcome back to school for the second half of spring term and the sun is finally shining more! The flowers are starting to bloom and if we look just outside our school gates and along Liverpool Grove we will see that the new flowerbeds have had plants put in! It really does brighten up our street and we encourage our children to look after them and let them continue to grow. We are preparing ourselves for the season of Lent, which starts next week. Parents Evening – 18th & 20th March 2014 This term you will get to hear more about your child’s personal progress as we have our Parents’ evening on Tuesday 18th and Thursday 20th March so please make sure you come. More details to follow. Kitchen After the Easter Holidays we will be have a Food Week to launch the new kitchen with a blessing from Father Andrew and another very important person! During Food Week we will be inviting you in to eat lunch with pupils, staff and governors and sample the menus that we have on offer! Please wait for a separate letter of invitation. Our three weekly menus are soon to be on our website and are currently on our notice board outside so please have a look. Very rarely do we have to change our menu for the day but if we do you will receive a text from the school to let you know. If you have any queries about school lunches please come and see me. FREDS This reading with Dads Party has been postponed again until March 12th after school at St Peter’s Church. See you all there. Coding Week From Monday 3rd March to Friday 9th March, we will be celebrating our one week of code! A reminder to all parents of a Nursery pupil that they are welcome to stay every Friday at the following times: AM Parents – 8.30am to 9am PM Parents – 12.45pm to 1pm Punctuality and attendance improvements! We are pleased to see so many more pupils and families are now in the playground even before the bell rings at 8.55am. This makes for a fantastic start to the day. Thank you for working so hard to ensure that your children are in school on time every day. Some families still need to work hard to get our percentage down to zero! You are always welcome to come and see me if you have concerns or need further support. Did you know that… Being late for school reduces your child’s learning time! If your child is 5 minutes late every day they are missing 3 days of learning each year! If your child is 15 minutes late everyday they will miss 2 weeks of learning each year! We are pleased to announce that our persistent absence data for the autumn term has come down from 5.1% at the end of last year to 3.9% (There are still a few children across year 1 to year 6 whose attendance is still below 85%). The National average is 3.6% and Southwark’s Average is 3.3% so we are closing the gap. Maintenance Fund For the up keep of a church school building, parents are asked to pay £30 a year. For every £10 you contribute, the Southwark Diocesan Board of Education gives us £90 so it is really worth it. This year we have had a brand new kitchen after 20 years and we are also having brand new KS2 girl’s toilets after 20 years too. Don’t forget to give towards the upkeep of your child’s school as they will see the benefits! Please see the office staff at any time to do this. Ash Wednesday Ash Wednesday begins the Season of Lent and our preparation for the Easter celebration of Jesus resurrection. The children will receive the Cross of Ashes, an ancient symbol of both repentance and renewal. The mark of the Cross on our foreheads is an outward sign that we all make mistakes in our lives and that we need to recognise our weaknesses and turn back to God for help to become more like Jesus. If you do not wish for your children to receive the cross of ashes, please complete the form below and return it to your child’s teacher before Wednesday morning.
