Arabic Stages 4 / 5 Family - العائلة Activity context These digital resources have been designed for languages teachers to use with Interactive Whiteboards (IWBs). These activities have been designed to consolidate the language learned when studying the topic of family, including vocabulary when referring to one's own family and other peoples' families and counting people. Family members have been colour coded, so that males and females can be readily identified. The images can be changed around. Just click and drag. Teachers can use the magic pen tool to spotlight relevant vocabulary or can choose to cover the vocabulary items and reveal them as the students learn the vocabulary for each person. The Notebook file can be modified to suit the different needs of teachers and students. © NSW Department of Education and Training 2001 Page | 1 Family Tree - writing in Arabic This page has been designed to help students consolidate family vocabulary and develop their writing in Arabic. The pull tab has instructions written on it for this page. Activity 1 Teachers and students can drag and drop the vocabulary from the list into the appropriate boxes. Activity 2 Cover up the vocabulary list and have the students practise writing the vocabulary from memory. Alternatively, leave the list so students can refer to it if needed. Family vocabulary - matching text Students read the English and Arabic vocabulary then drag the appropriate Arabic word into the position to the left of its English equivalent. Teachers can time the students completing this activity. For this activity students need to have learnt the vocabulary for family. The Notebook file can be edited to include up to eight vocabulary items and translations. Family vocabulary This page has been designed to help students consolidate vocabulary related to family and to recognise the Arabic script. Students form teams. Team members click on two cards and try to find pairs. Students take turns from each group. When two matching cards are found, the team gets a point. The winning team is the team which finds the most pairs. This Notebook page can be edited to include many vocabulary items and images. Teachers may opt to substitute pictures instead of the English text. Click on 'edit', then there is the option to drag in up to 12 pairs of pictures and/or type in text. © NSW Department of Education and Training 2001 Page | 2 Family members - masculine or feminine To consolidate describing words related to family members, male and female. Students drag and drop the words at the bottom into their appropriate columns relating to male or female. Click on check to correct. For this activity students need to have learnt the vocabulary for family members and identify masculine and feminine adjectives that can be used to describe male and female members. The Notebook file can be edited to include a number of vocabulary items. Describing family members To consolidate vocabulary related to describing family members. Students read the English and Arabic vocabulary then drag the appropriate Arabic word into the position to the left of its English equivalent. Teachers can time the students completing this activity. For this activity students need to have learnt the vocabulary for describing people. The Notebook file can be edited to include up to eight vocabulary items and translations. Describing one's own family This page allows students the opportunity to talk about themselves and members of their own family. Activity Using the magic pen students highlight each member of the family. They can describe them to their classmates and/or write a description of each family member under the images.
