SURPRISE ─ SURPRISE ─ SURPRISE I AM BEYOND MAD, I AM LIVID! Surprise, please explain to me just where the City of Surprise’s official’s heads are at. Speedworld, a private business, is given $15,000 for their annual offroad racing event that lasts three days. That is three days of breathing athroconidia and for weeks to come. Arizona can’t pass a PM10 and you want to add more pollution? Let me get this straight: The City of Surprise is paying $15,000 to Speedworld, as it is struggling to hold their off-road racing. The races aren’t even being held in Surprise, but in Wittmann, but Surprise is hoping some business will come its way. Just how much money has Surprise given their state’s University of AZ ━ Valley Fever Center for Excellence (VFCE) for the cure? Let me make an educational guess, nothing, nada, zip, zilch, and the big zero in monies. I can’t speak for the citizens of Surprise, as I live in Sun City West, but I hear from your resident’s way too often looking for help with Valley Fever. They are very sick. They want quality of life. Let me put it this way, they want good health. Interesting enough, I bet the residences of Surprise would have rather had the City give that $15,000, as a tax deductable donation to the VFCE. That would have shown your residents that you really do care about them, rather than hide “Our Local Secret” from the public, residents and visitors just to hope you will make some money on the races. Valley Fever is currently an incurable disease. There is no such thing as immunity by being born in Arizona. That is pure poppycock. If you breathe, you will be infected in time. There were 11,895 confirmed cases of Valley Fever in Arizona for 2010. The total infections in Arizona for 2010 are approximately 607,000 cases. Once anyone is infected, they may never be a blood or organ donor; and, One may donate their corneas. If that does not scare you, perhaps this might make the hair on your body stand at attention. The arthroconidia (Valley Fever spore) has been considered for use as a bio-terrorists weapon ─ the same as Anthrax; The athroconidia is a bio-hazard, Level III ─ the same as Anthrax and just as deadly; and, Fifteen trillion spores fit into a cubic inch. Ouch! In the month of February 2011, I know of the following deaths due to Valley Fever: One woman in her early 40’s; One man in his early 40’s; One boy, 12 years old; and, One police canine for the City of Avondale. Thousands of animals are being euthanized yearly due to the cost to treat and medicate them. The Arizona Death Panel has been active a lot longer than any resident of Arizona has realized. Arizona ranks 49th of 50 states whose residents don’t have health insurance and we have Valley Fever which is an expensive illness. Now our illustrious governor and legislative government are removing approximately 280,000 adults without kids from AHCCCS, many who are extremely ill. Isn’t that what our US government would consider as discrimination? Discrimination is what women, and races have been working towards for decades. In November 2008, our state legislature did away with the entire Valley Fever department in the Arizona Department of Health Services and the infectious disease doctor that the CDC sent to find out what is going on in Arizona and particular, Maricopa County. Arizona has only given $300,000 in 65 years. Pretty impressive? California in 2008 gave $10 million and Kern County gave $10.7 million in 2007 to their universities researching Valley Fever. The Federal Government stopped funding Valley Fever to all university research departments in 1985. They began funding HIV/Aids and have never funded Valley Fever to the present. HIV/Aids is a preventable disease; and Valley Fever is NOT a preventable disease. Arizona and the Southwest want the public to think that Valley Fever is no worse than a cold; which could be nothing further from the truth. Arizona needs to solve the problem. That means the government of Arizona (including counties and cities) and every man and woman, every domestic business large and small, every international business; every medical facility etc. must fund the cure and vaccine. The cure Nikkomycin Z is in phase 2 of clinical trials, but they need approximately $100 million dollars. On February 23, 2011, I had a phone call from a Surprise mother regarding her 15 year old child, who has been infected with Valley Fever and is battling disseminated Cocci Meningitis. She was told to call me. We will help the family in every way that we can and anyone who asks for help from Arizona Victims of Valley Fever, Inc. We have been doing that now for six years. The only thing Arizonans and visitors do in Arizona to become ill is to have the audacity to breathe. Arizona, we all deserve better. Anyone who wants more information may attend our monthly support group meetings. We meet on the third, Thursday of each month from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. at P.O.R.A. in Sun City West, AZ.
