ACCREDITATION
SCHOOL AND COMMUNITY: Stuarts Draft High School is located in a rural and industrial community between Stuarts
Draft and Waynesboro, Virginia. The student body reflects the diversity of the community, as well as, the surrounding area. The
community is a growing industrial area offering varied cultural and recreational opportunities, comprehensive medical services
(including those for the disabled and mentally or emotionally disturbed), community employment and guidance services, as well as,
varied transportation and communication services. There are many churches and service clubs to meet the religious and civic needs of
students, as well as, a number of educational institutions and facilities for advanced or specialized training available nearby.
One of five comprehensive high schools in Augusta County, Stuarts Draft High School offers a challenging academic, technical and
college-preparatory curriculum. SDHS offers Advanced Placement courses in English Literature, Calculus, Chemistry, U.S. History,
Physics and U.S. Government. In addition, there are comprehensive vocational, fine and performing arts offerings. In an articulation
agreement with Blue Ridge Community College, Dual Enrollment courses also afford students the opportunity to take college-level
courses. The VA DOE supplements the school curriculum by offering Virtual Virginia Courses .
SCHOOL YEAR: The school operates on a thirty-six week school year. Class periods are ninety-two minutes, on a 4 X 4 block
schedule. Some courses (English 11AA/U.S. History AP/English 12AP/U.S. Government AP/Calculus AP/Physics AP or Chemistry
AP) are half-block year long courses.
GPA/RANK IN CLASS: Cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated for each student at the end of each year.
Marks for all subjects attempted for credit, whether passed or failed, are recorded and used in computing grade point average and
determining class rank. GPA computation includes high school level credits earned in grade eight. Advanced Placement,
Shenandoah Valley Governor’s School (SVGS) and Dual Enrollment courses are weighted with an additional 1.0 quality point
added to the final grade unless the grade is an F. Only the higher grade is calculated into the GPA when a course is repeated;
however all courses attempted and the resulting grades are recorded on the transcript. The GPA is calculated to five significant digits
and rounded to four digits. Class Rank is computed for all seniors at the end of six, seven and eight semesters who are pursuing an
Advanced Studies Diploma or a Standard Diploma . When two or more persons have the same rank, ranking resumes, allowing
for the duplicate numbers.
GRADING SCALE / QUALITY POINTS
Semester and final course grades are computer generated based on the following average quality point scale:
A+ = 99-100 (4.3333)
A = 96-98 (4.0000)
A- = 94-95 (3.6667)
B+ = 92-93 (3.3333)
B = 88-91 (3.0000)
B- = 86-87 (2.6667)
C+ = 84-85 (2.3333)
C = 80-83 (2.0000)
C- = 78-79 (1.6667)
D+ = 76-77 (1.3333)
D = 72-75 (1.0000)
D- = 70-71 (.6667)
F = 0-69 (0)
I = Incomplete
NM = No Mark
 Advanced Placement Virtual Virginia was graded on a 7 point scale for 2011-2012. From 2012 -2013 and forward
all Advanced Placement, Dual Enrollment and Virtual Virginia courses will be graded on a 10 point scale.
