Method Statement – Grass Cutting
This Method statement is critical to the health and safety of the activity (ies) it relates to. It
should be strictly adhered to. Any deviation must first be authorised by the site supervisor.

Planned Task/Activity Description: Grass cutting to maintain grass within required height limits
Site Location and Access: Enter Details
Working Environment & restrictions Check area to be cut for safe access of machines to
be used and remove any litter before mowing. Also check with client any site restrictions with
regard to noise etc.
Number of operatives Normally a team of two.
Operational Details Grass to be cut using pedestrian rotary mowers and/or small ride-on
mower. Frequency of cut sufficient to kept grass within 25-50mm, normally once a fortnight
but could be once a week to once a month depending on the season, all arisings left on
surface but blown off all hard surfaces before moving on to new area. All edges to soft areas
(beds and borders) cut at same time as area is mown, areas abutting hard surfaces or
inaccessible to mowers cut using a strimmer where required.
Performance All grass areas on the site cut on the same day (unless stopped by inclement
weather or site very large) including edges, all grass cut to a uniform height and within the
specified height range and all arisings removed from hard surfaces.
Conditions on site: Please refer to SSRA & complete a PSSRA if new hazards arise on the day of
working.

Operatives Competence/Training: Check operatives are experienced/competent with task(s) and
training records have been signed before the work commences
PPE Requirements: Protective foot wear, ear protection and company uniform to be worn at all times
whilst mowing plus Hi-viz clothing dependant on site. If mowing under trees or strimming eye/face
protection.
First Aid Requirements/Nearest Hospital/Emergency services: First Aid Box in van, mobile phone
for emergency contact. Enter additional local details
Plant & Equipment: Van or truck, pedestrian rotary mower, small ride-on rotary, strimmers,
backpack blowers, edging shears. Fuel in 5l plastic or 10l metal cans, petrol and 2-stroke mixture.

on vehicle. Keep spare fuel secure in vehicle.
Lone Working: Only lone work this operation if the mowing doesn’t require the lifting of pedestrian
mowers and a Lone Working Risk Assessment has been completed
