Annual Work Plan
RECREATION COMMISSION MEETINGS
The Recreation Commission meetings are typically held at the Lowell Community
Center, 501 West First Street, on the Third Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm, as
business requires. Please call City Hall as the schedule for meetings is subject to change
based upon the schedules of members.
ATHLETIC PROGRAMS
NOTE: Registration for all athletic programs is advertised using the City’s website, the
marque at Rankin Park, in quarterly newsletters and through local schools. Dates and
times provided in this overview are approximations. Final dates, times and game
schedules will be posted on the City’s Website: www.lowellnc.com. Scroll down on
“City Departments”, click “Parks and Recreation”, and follow the link to “Lowell
Athletics”.
Spring Soccer (January 2015 through May 2015)
The Spring Soccer Program is available for boys and girls ages 9 to 12 years old.
Registration for the Program starts in the first week of January and will run through the
end of February.
Soccer practices will be held at Harold Rankin Park beginning in early March and will
continue throughout the season. Regular season soccer games begin in mid-March and
run through mid-May, with playoffs being held in mid to late May. Soccer banquets are
held in the first week of June.
Lowell typically fields four teams and approximately 50 children for the Spring Soccer
program. The program is coordinated with neighboring towns and cities.
Spring Baseball & T – Ball (February 2015 through June 2015)
The Spring Baseball and T-Ball Program is available for boys and girls ages 3 to 13 years
old.
Registration for the Program will take place throughout the month of February.
Practices for the Spring Baseball and T-Ball Program will be held at Harold Rankin Park
beginning in early March and will continue throughout the season. Regular season
Baseball and T-Ball games begin in mid-March and run through mid-May, with playoffs
being held in mid to late May. Banquets are held in the first week of June.
Lowell typically fields seven teams and approximately 60 children for the spring Baseball
and T-Ball program. The program is coordinated with neighboring towns and cities.
Fall Soccer (July 2015 through November 2015)
The Fall Soccer Program is available for boys and girls ages 3 to 14 years old.
Registration for the Program will take place throughout the month of July.
Practices for the Fall Soccer Program will be held at Harold Rankin Park beginning in
early August and will continue throughout the season.
Regular season matches begin in the third week of August and run through mid-October,
with playoffs being held in the third week of October.
Banquets are held in early November.
Typically Lowell fields as many as 10 teams for the Fall Soccer program with as many as
80 participants. The program is coordinated with neighboring towns and cities.
Basketball (November 2015 through March 2016)
The Basketball Program is available for boys and girls in the following age groups:
The Girls and Boys Basketball Program is for ages 3 to 14 years old
The Girls only Basketball Program is for ages 9 to 12 years old
Registration for the Programs will start in the first week of November and run through
the first week of December.
Open practice sessions and team practice will be provided at the Lowell Boy’s and Girl’s
Club on North Main Street beginning in early December and running throughout the
Basketball season.
Games will begin in the first week of January and will run through the last week of
February.
Playoffs will take place in the first and second weeks of March, and team banquets will
be scheduled for mid-March.
Typically there are seven Lowell teams participating in the Program along with teams
from other neighboring municipalities. In the 2014/2015 Program, 75 children
participated in the Lowell teams.

COMMUNITY EVENTS
A. The Lowell Freedom Festival is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, May 25th
B. The annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday March 28th at noon
C. The Farmers Market will be held on Thursdays from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm
beginning June 11th and running through August 20th
D. October Fest (date to be announced)
E. Christmas Parade and Light Up Lowell (date to be announced)
