Job Title: Associate Director, Student Leadership and Engagement

Department: Office of the Dean of Students

Reports to: Associate Dean of Students

Summary:

The Associate Director of Student Leadership and Engagement will work with the Office of Student

Engagement team to advance the mission and vision of the University by initiating, facilitating, and assessing a comprehensive program that promotes leadership development within individual and organizational engagement opportunities. The Associate Director will be charged with creation and assessment of leadership initiatives coming out of the Office of Student Engagement. Special emphasis will be focused on leadership opportunities that support harm reduction within the social environment around high-risk issues.

Essential Functions:

Oversee, assess and enhance leadership initiatives such as Carpe Deacon, CHARGE and the

Women’s Leadership Symposium.

Develop, implement and evaluate various organizational and leadership development initiatives to ensure leadership opportunities for any Wake Forest student.

Facilitate an organizational development process by creating a system in which student organizations can access resources, tools and support to enhance formal and informal leadership.

Assist with the continued development of the Expectations for Excellence , fraternity and sorority organizational assessment.

Implement a structure in which all student organizational needs and growth areas can be assessed and analyzed on an annual basis.

Develop and facilitate leadership initiatives that incorporate concepts of intersectionality, diversity and privilege.

Create opportunities for positive leadership practices that reduce harms associated with alcohol/drug use, sexual violence, hazing, and eating disorders.

Create, implement and evaluate competency based student organization advisor trainings.

Implement an assessment strategy focused on measuring student learning outcomes and generating data which will facilitate a data-driven decision making process.

Facilitate student engagement and mentorship opportunities.

Develop and maintain resources and systems which promote student involvement.

Develop peer led training curricula and opportunities for leadership laboratories based on the

Wake Forest Leadership Pyramid.

Other Functions:

Serve as a member of the Student Engagement Leadership Team.

Serve on a variety of committees within the department, the Division of Campus Life and the university community.

Participate in all department professional activities.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

 Master’s degree strongly preferred and five plus years of experience in Student Affairs, or an

 equivalent combination of education and experience

 Ability to effectively work with a broad spectrum of students, faculty and staff

Knowledge of student learning theory assessment processes and procedures

 Experience developing and facilitating initiatives that emphasize multiculturalism and inclusion

 Understanding of relevant leadership theories; such as the Leadership Identity Development

Model, Servant Leadership, the Social Change Model and Transformational Leadership

 Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on a variety of complex tasks

 Demonstrated ability to think critically and proactively problem-solve

 Knowledge of and a professional commitment to learning about student development and

 effective higher education administration practices

Ability to demonstrate excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing

 Excellent organizational skills, with accuracy and attention to detail

Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other relevant software

Knowledge and understanding of academic cultures, rules, and regulations; including knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

 Demonstrated experience working with diverse populations and coordination of crosscultural/diversity programs.

 Knowledge of and a professional commitment to student development and effective higher education administration practices.

Accountabilities:

This position reports to the Associate Dean of Students for Student Engagement.

May supervise a graduate assistant for leadership development.

Coordinates budget development and departmental spending to ensure fiscal responsibility

Works with minimal supervision.
