Objectives: TSW: Select appropriate resources for background information related to a question Demonstrate safe behavior and appropriate procedures. Perform measurements using appropriate scientific tools. Keep records of observations, notes, sketches… Apply the following scientific processes to other problem solving and decision making situations: inferring, observing, measuring, communicating, organizing data, identifying variables. Monday: Fill Out Planners: 5 mins Observations and Inferences Notes: Students will differentiate between qualitative and quantitative observations, then using them to make appropriate inferences. 20-25 mins Observations and Inferences Picture activity: 20-25 mins Homework: Students will complete an observations and inferences worksheet Tuesday: Bell Work: 5 mins. Measurement of Length: Students will become more familiar with basic metric conversions through a length measurement activity. 25-30 mins. Review Observations and inferences/ Activity: 15 mins. Homework: Review types of observations and inferences for quiz Wednesday: Bell Work: 5 mins Quiz: Observations and inferences: 20 mins Review of Instasnow lab 5 mins Introduction to variables: 20-25 mins. Students will take their new information on independent, dependent and constant variables to design a question to test about their instasnow : remainder of class. Homework: Variables Worksheet? TBD Thursday: Bell Work: 5 mins Variables worksheet and discussion: 20-30 minutes Students will take their understanding of variables to design their own “Variable Story”. 1 Story from each class will be selected to use on their quiz! The students should be able to differentiate between independent, dependent and constant variables : 30+ minutes. Homework: Finish variable story if not completed. Friday: Bell Work: 5 mins Introduction to writing a Hypothesis: 25 mins. Hypothesis Activity 15 mins. Students will take their question about the instasnow and write a hypothesis about the property that they will test. Homework: Review variables and writing a hypothesis (Quiz will be next week!!)
