Maternity leave during health student placements
If you are away from your programme for maternity reasons you must follow the
suspension of studies procedures.
You will usually be able to take up to a year off from your programme.
Suspension of studies forms can be collected outside of Ashton 5, Park Campus. You
must complete your form and have it authorised by your pathway leader. Completed
forms must be submitted to the Health Student Administration Team in Ashton 5.
Once your form has been processed you will receive a letter of confirmation.
Maternity pay
Social work students are not eligible to receive payments during maternity leave.
Health students who receive a bursary are entitled to maternity pay while on maternity
leave.
The payment that you will receive will be the same as your normal bursary payments.
Payments for childcare will stop while you are on maternity leave.
Before you suspend your studies you will need to provide your maternity certificate (MAT
B1 form) and complete a bursary form in person with the Health Student Placements
Office staff.
The Student Grants Unit usually pay up to 52 weeks maternity leave. Any leave taken
after this will be unpaid.
Occupational health clearance
If you have given birth you must undertake a new occupational health clearance. You
won’t be able to return to your placement until you have received occupational health
clearance.
If you take a suspension of studies for six months or more you must complete a new
Criminal Records Bureau application. All required forms will be sent to you before your
planned return.
