Compulsory Professional Practice Placements Compulsory professional practice placements form a large proportion of your programme and are regulated in conjunction with Health Education England. These placements offer a rich and rewarding opportunity for you to experience the role of your chosen career in contemporary health care settings. UWE covers the South West placement region and your placements allocated over the three years of study may be located anywhere across the Health Education South West footprint. As an example one of your placement experiences could potentially be as far as 65 miles away, 2 hours on public transport, for a duration of as much as 14 weeks at a time and/or involve 12 hour night shifts. In order to successfully complete your studies and be able to qualify and register as a health care practitioner, it is important for you to complete a spectrum of placement opportunities to the very best of your ability. Please ensure that you consider your arrangements to attend ALL placements, especially as it is a real possibility that you may be assigned an opportunity that is further away or is harder to reach using public transport than others. Placements are assigned by the Professional Practice Office. We accommodate student’s access needs and reasonable adjustments through assessment with the University Disability Services. Should you have any special requirements regarding your ability to attend placements, we will ask that you please bring it to the attention of Disability Services at the earliest opportunity. It is not suitable to cater for student preferences for placement. Should your placement extend beyond the University’s standard accommodation contract dates, the Accommodation services department does offer the option to apply for an extended contract. The anticipated placement schedule is provided with your course information. UWE accommodation services can provide information on your contract options.
