Thank you for your request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 about
Breeding Licenses received on 4th November 2015.
We have considered your request and enclose the following information:
1. What terms require a breeder to have a breeding license within your local authority
(e.g. if they breed over a specific number of litters)?
As required by the Animal Welfare (Breeding of Dogs) (Wales)
Regulations 2014
2. Please state the number of breeders in your local authority in 2014 and to date in
2015:

3. Do staff, on behalf of your local authority, carry out visits relating to dog breeding
and licensing? (Please state yes/no and give details of purpose e.g. inspect dog
housing, breeding facilities etc.)?
At present a Licensing Enforcement Officer will accompany the vet
during his inspection as part of the granting of licence procedure.
4. Is a visit/inspection carried out when a breeder or breeding establishment is first
licensed?
Yes
5. How frequently do they need to renew their license?
The licence is required to be renewed every calendar year.
6. Are breeders then revisited if they renew their breeding license?
Yes.
7. Please indicate the number of staff within your authority which carry out these
inspections/visits:
Any one of 6 licensing officers may accompany the vet
