INDIAN ANTHROPOLOGY CONGRESS: 2016 Organized by DEPARTMENT OF ANTHROPOLOGY, ASSAM UNIVERSITY, DIPHU CAMPUS, DIPHU, ASSAM In collaboration with INDIAN NATIONAL CONFEDERATION AND ACADEMY OF ANTHROPOLOGISTS (INCAA) and INDIRA GANDHI RASHTRIYA MANAV SANGRAHALAY, BHOPAL GENERAL INFORMATION The Indian Anthropology Congress : 2016 is scheduled to be held during February 2123, 2016 under the auspices of the Department of Anthropology, Assam University, Diphu Campus. The Focal Theme chosen for deliberations during the Congress is ‘Emerging Frontiers of Anthropology’. A copy of the write up on the Focal Theme has been appended. On the occasion of the Congress, INCAA proposes to organize Round Table: 2016 on ‘Identities, Ethnic Boundaries, and the State’. The Indian Anthropology Congress: 2016, will organise the Plenary Sessions, one each on i) Prof. B.K. Roy Burman and Indian Anthropology, ii) Ethno-medicine in Northeast India, iii) Understanding Issues of Tea Garden Workers of Northeast India iv) Reproductive Health: Anthropological Perspectives and v) Ethnic Movements in the Northeast India and several Technical/Scientific, and Open Sessions. All fellow professionals and scholars are cordially invited to attend the Congress. In addition, Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS), Bhopal, proposes to organize one Panel on “Contemporary Anthropological Research on the Tribes of NorthEast India” and this panel expects large number of contributions from upcoming scholars who are pursuing or completed Postgraduate, M.Phil., Ph.D degrees in various universities or even working for research projects on variegated issues concerning tribes of Northeast India. The Department of Anthropology has started at Assam University Diphu campus from the year 2010. The Department offers a four semester Post Graduate (M.A. /M.Sc.) and Integrated Ph.D. programme in Anthropology. The Department has been engaged various anthropological research works especially among the tribes of Northeast India. The Department is planning to carry out large scale research projects that would help students to get exposure in Anthropological research in the field of culture, health and development which help them to get employment opportunities in Research Organizations/Institutions both in Government and Non Government Organizations. The Department is fairly well known for its researches in the field of socio-cultural anthropology, medical anthropology, health and nutritional studies, human growth and development, etc. Dr. Kh. Narendra Singh has been functioning as the Head of the Department since its inception in 2010. The Indian National Confederation and Academy of Anthropologists (INCAA), established in March, 2004 as a registered Society, is a pan-Indian organization which aims to function as a federating body of professional Anthropologists and activate regional professional anthropological outfits. Through its annual events, INCAA provides a platform for effective communication among professional anthropologists. Its primary role is to promote the cause of Anthropology and Anthropologists, particularly of those having association with India. INCAA aims at promoting Anthropology as a discipline, within as well outside the University system, particularly within governments and voluntary organizations, and to ensure its effective interventions at the policy planning level on issues concerning interdisciplinary and holistic human development. Presentation of Papers: Presentation of papers on the Focal Theme ‘Emerging Frontiers of Anthropology’ will be the priority of the Registered Delegates. Besides, papers particularly based on primary data highlighting theoretical and methodological approaches are also especially welcome. An Abstract of the paper, not exceeding 350 words, should reach the Organizing Secretary with a copy to the Member-Secretary, INCAA on or before November 30, 2015. Full papers completed in every respect should reach the undersigned, with a copy to the Member-Secretary INCAA by December 30, 2015. All papers shall be referred to an Academic Committee specially appointed for the purpose, in order to assess their publish worthiness. Papers recommended by the Academic Committee shall be enlisted for oral presentation. If the Academic Committee recommends ‘Poster Presentation’, the authors will be communicated about the same by January 22, 2015. Nevertheless, arrangement for Poster Presentations will also be made only of those papers that have been received on or after December 30, 2015. Posters should be 1 meter x 1 meter in dimension. Travel Support: We are applying for funds and if we get sufficient funds, we would reimburse travel grant to those registered delegates whose papers have been accepted for oral presentation/Poster Presentation as well as sent the full text by the stipulated date. Nevertheless, the Organizing Committee will appreciate, if individual scholars can arrange funding on their own for travel. Diphu town is well connected by road and rail and the nearest Airport is located at Dimapur, Nagaland (70 km) and Guwahati Airport is located at a distance of 270 km. The Assam University Diphu Campus is on the Lumding Road about 10 km away from Diphu Railway Station. Auto rickshaw is the popular modes of conveyance facility in Diphu town. Local Hospitality: The Organizing Committee will be happy to extend local hospitality (breakfast, session tea, lunch, and dinner on all days of the conference for the out station delegates and lunch and session tea on all three days of the Congress to the local delegates) to every registered delegates. Accommodation: Assam University, Diphu Campus does not have any Guest House facilities. Moreover, Diphu is very small town having a few hotels that can provide modest accommodation for a maximum number of approximately 120 participants. The rooms will be provided to all out station participants from the evening of February 20, 2016 till morning of February 24, 2016. In view of limited availability of accommodation (only about 120 out station delegates can be accommodated), the accommodation shall be booked on the basis of priority of the date of registration. Diphu weather: Generally Diphu town gets warmer in day time towards the last week of February. However, light warm clothing in the early morning and late evening.
