NEWSLETTER

Parents evening
Thank you to all the parents who came on Tuesday or Wednesday for parents evening. The
vast majority of parents attended, which was fantastic. If you were unable to attend parents
evening please makes an appointment to see your child’s class teacher and we will do our
best to arrange a convenient time.
Competition reminders
Just a quick reminder that we will be running a decorate an egg competition for the junior
children on Wednesday 1st April and an Easter Bonnet competition on Thursday the 2nd for
our Infant children
PTA Easter bingo
Just a reminder that the Easter bingo takes place tonight at 7.00 (Doors open at 6.30).
There will be refreshments on sale at the event and all money raised will go towards buying
new computer equipment for the computer suite.
PTA
The PTA have asked for the following to go on our newsletter:
The PTA would like to say a huge thank you to all the parents/carers which kindly
volunteered their support to help with PTA events at Parents’ evening. For all those that
shared their contact details the PTA minutes will be distributed to you by email with all the up
and coming events, these are also available on the PTA page of the school website.
If anyone can help in any way at all please see a member of the PTA or leave your details at
the school office.
The PTA are also asking for donations for any school uniform which your child has now
outgrown and is fit for recycling. We would like coats, fleeces, polo shirts, jumpers, dresses,
skirts, trousers, PE kits, paired pumps and school shoes. If you could drop them at the
school office the PTA will collect them.
Open door policy
Just a reminder that you don’t have to wait until parents evening to come in and talk to us
about your child’s progress. Just pop in and make an appointment, we value working with
you to support your child’s learning. We also have a parents forum for parents to have their
say – details of the meetings are advertised on the newsletter and take place each half term.
Parking
The school have received a complaint regarding the parking outside the school during
morning and afternoon drop off. The complaint was from one of our parents who had to go
around a car parked illegally on the pavement. We have forwarded the complaint to the
council and to the police. I would urge you to contact the police directly with registration
numbers of cars that you see parked in a dangerous position. As a school we have no
powers to fine or issue a penalty to drivers. Please support the school by reporting cars and
drivers to the police directly. We will be receiving visits from the road traffic police.
Before school
We are getting a number of parents leaving their child/ children unattended in the playground
in the morning due to commitments; we have also had a number of parents requesting that
children come into school early. We cannot take responsibility for children arriving and
waiting in the playground nor can we allow children to be dropped off early. We do however
have a breakfast club facility for children; please see Mrs Howkins for details.
Sport
We have been approached by a few parents at parents evening requesting more sport in
school. As you already know we do a huge amount of sport and enter lots of competitions
with other schools. We do not have the staff to increase the number of afterschool clubs at
present but if you can offer any service to the school please let us know. We have also had
feedback regarding the Football kit. Are you in the position to sponsor the school and
provide a new football kit showing your details? Please let us know if you can help.
Newsletters
We are currently setting the budget for the next financial year. We are a small school and so
funding is tight. As a school we are looking at ways to cut costs and run the school more
efficiently. We are considering reducing our photocopying and paper costs by just putting
the newsletter on the website rather than providing a paper copy. If you would still like to
have a paper copy of the newsletter please let the office staff know. Hopefully if parents
agree, we can save a considerable amount of money each year to spend on other things
that will support learning in the classroom.
Free Swimming Lesson
One of our parents is running a training session for swimming teachers in the Easter
holidays and is looking for children to come along and receive a free swimming lesson. The
session is on Friday 10th April and will take place at Smithills School between 12 noon and
1.30pm. The sessions are open to children from Reception to Year 6, non-swimmers and
swimmers welcome. All the adults will have a DBS check and there will be first aiders on
site. Parents will have to stay on the premises. If you are interested for your child please
contact Joanne or David on 01942 409584. Booking is essential as places are limited.
