D., Educational Psychology University of Minnesota Minneapolis, MN -Licenses Held: Licensed School Psychologist National Certified School Psychologist Licensed Consulting Psychologist Professional Experience Professor Minnesota State University, Mankato 1987-present Responsibilities: As a College of Education faculty memberI work collaboratively with departmental colleagues as we plan, deliver, and evaluate our undergraduate and graduate initial and advanced teacher licensure program to University students. We meet with our secondary content area faculty to consider the appropriateness of the program and the fit between their and our contributions. My instructional areas of emphases are the psychology of learning, effective teaching and learning paradigms in secondary schools and professional programs, differentiated instruction, and the study of critical issues impacting American education today. I enthusiastically advise students to provide the support and direction they need for the professional education part of their program and as they prepare to enter the field of practice. Further, I have for 6 years coordinated the undergraduate teacher licensure program, and have created unique programs and offerings for students, working collaboratively with colleagues to implement. Some examples are the Secondary Education Coalition, KSP Undergraduate Distinguished Scholar, Student On Special Assignment (SOSA), KSP Undergraduate Brochure, KSP Undergraduate Advisory Council, Block Orientations, and spearheaded the effort to redesign structural pieces and curriculum of the present undergraduate program to meet contemporary needs of students and the field of practice. My other professional service work beyond the Department level is enumerated below. My research agenda targets effective teaching and learning in secondary education and in teacher education. Through many research opportunities I have conducted empirical research and distributed findings and conclusions to the field of practice through articles and conferences. Creative projects include numerous programmatic pieces listed above as well having created a KSP General Education course for our Secondary Education Learning Community (KSP 200 Critical Issues in Public Education Today), with emphasis on research; critical listening, reading and thinking; and ethical and civic responsibility. Presently I am collaboratively working on a sequel to this, KSP 251 Coming Of Age, with emphasis on diversity; critical listening, reading and thinking; and ethical and civic responsibility. All my recent research accomplishments are enumerated below. Of all responsibilities, my most important ones are those focused on my students. With clear and deliberate intention, I (1) demonstrate attention and care for their well being through informal and formal advising and creating advising literature; (2) always commit the time and effort to be entirely prepared for each class, functioning as a role model; and (3) carefully design structured ways to work along side of students, operating as a mentor.
