Job description
"The 2007-2013 ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme is a multilateral Cross-Border
Cooperation initiative funded by the European Neighbourhood and Partnership Instrument (ENPI). The
Programme objective is to promote the sustainable and harmonious cooperation process at the
Mediterranean Basin level by dealing with the common challenges and enhancing its endogenous
potential. It finances cooperation projects as a contribution to the economic, social, environmental and
cultural development of the Mediterranean region. The following 14 countries participate in the
Programme: Cyprus, Egypt, France, Greece, Israel, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, Malta, Palestine, Portugal,
Spain, Syria (participation currently suspended), Tunisia. The Joint Managing Authority (JMA) is the
Autonomous Region of Sardinia (Italy). Official Programme languages are Arabic, English and French
(www.enpicbcmed.eu)".
The National Council for Scientific Research, the Remote Sensing Centre, is seeking a motivated and
eager candidate with the ability to work in a multidisciplinary team environment for the position of
Experienced Researcher, on the ENPI CBC Mediterranean Sea Basin Programme for the project
‘Generating a Risk and Ecological Analysis Toolkit for the Mediterranean ‘with Grant Contract
Identification number.
The project is led by Sapienza University of Rome (Italy), the partners are: Aix-Marseille University Mediterranean Institute of Marine and Terrestrial Biodiversity & Ecology (France); American University
of Beirut (Lebanon); The National Council For Scientific Research (Lebanon); University of Sfax BIOECOS-MA (Tunisia), Saint Joseph University - Lab. Genomic Characterization of Plants, (Lebanon).
The project deals with the crucial issues of biodiversity conservation, management and monitoring on
Mediterranean coasts, and focuses in particular on the design and implementation of an integrated
strategy based on ecological indicators and risk analysis. It will be implemented in five selected study
areas: Gulf of Cagliari (Italy), coastal area of Provence (France), the area of Byblos (Lebanon), Ras Beirut
(Lebanon) and the Gulf of Gabès (Tunisia), to assure a range of examples sufficient to elaborate a
transferable product.
Responsibilities :
The experienced researcher will be responsible of the following duties :
 Provide GREAT Med with data and efficient information on sustainable management and
conservation of coastal zones
 Develop guidelines and best practices in ICZM in Mediterranean environments in accordance
with ICZM principles
 Prepare a booklet for guidelines and best practices in ICZM, to be user friendly
 Initiate and populate a reference database (online library) on CZM and successful experiences
around the Mediterranean
 Contribute to data collection of fauna in Lebanon (provide relevant information to the GREAT
Med team and assist in data collection)
Qualifications :






Ph.D. degree in Environmental Sciences
Experience in ecosystem management and biodiversity conservation principles and concepts
Excellent English writing skills
Ability to perform developed research studies
High analytical skills
Previous experience with CNRS is a plus
