INTERZONE and ZONE SPORTS For this term our students took part in Soccer, both boys and girls, Rugby, both boys and girls.. Coaches and students who make the Zone teams, put in hours of time so that they are all well prepared for the Zone Days. Soccer Zone competition, Year 7 and the Year 8 girls took part. The Year7 won the Zone tournament, which was really great. The Year 7 team was coached by Sanjeev Kumar and went through to play in the Interzone. The Year 8 team was coached by John Toomer and came second in the zone competition. The Boys Soccer had a lot of success as well. Derick Theunisen coached the Year 8 Team and the Year 7 Team was coached by Brent Davie of PACT. They both won by tight margins and went through to play in the Interzone. Rugby both the girls and boys went to the Zone competitions. The boys were represented with an Open Weight Team and a U55kg team. The U55kg boys Team was coached by Dave Finn and they played well in the Zone competition. The Boys Open Weight Team was coached by Folau Fiftia and Paul Lavea. They played well and won the Zone competition and they went through to play in the Interzone where they came second. Mata Magalei coached the Girls Rugby team (an Open weight team). Congratulations to all staff, students and the community for helping to fill our recycling bins. Thank you to the sponsors – Holcim [NZ] Ltd for supporting this wonderful project. THANK YOU TO ROOM 21 FOR THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE Room 21 have had an amazing second term. All students have worked really hard and produced work of which we are very proud! They have certainly learnt that if you put in the effort you get the results as was shown in the presentations of their Inquiry Learning tasks (see below) and their well-structured and well-presented persuasive speeches. It was very difficult to select three speech finalists to represent our class. However a decision has been made and the following three people will represent Room 21 - Zoe MCleod, Angela Ma and Gurjap Singh. These are some of the comments made by Room 21 students: “In Inquiry Learning I learnt how to research using keywords. I can brainstorm and sort my ideas using a mind map now”. (Harsha Devi). “In Inquiry Learning I learnt that our sub questions might not be topic related. Student feedback was great because it helps me to improve for next time”. (Kira West). “My next steps in Inquiry Learning would to be able to use my time wisely to get more information.” (Christian Tausinga). School wide International Day, held earlier this term, was a lot of fun for Room 21. We had the biggest International feast ever and we are extremely grateful for the help given by so many parents. Thank You so much from Room 21 By Zoe MCleod and Christian Tausinga
