The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is a national membership organization, founded in
1881. Our mission is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and
research.
Summary Description: AAUW's archives consist of historical material dating back to 1881, including paper
documents, photographs, artifacts and objects, books and audio-visual material. The Archives Department
preserves AAUW records, documents and promotes the history of the Association, and also serves as records
manager for the Association's current operations.
We are seeking an Intern for the Archives. This is an excellent opportunity for a student in library science or
history to gain valuable experience in the fields of archives and women's history. This is a part-time, paid
internship. Hours are flexible.
Summary Description:
Internship is available to students pursuing a history or library science degree with a
concentration or interest in archival studies/preservation. A background in or interest in women's history is a
plus.
Essential Duties:
·
Learn proper document handling and care.
·
Assist with assessment and organization of documents.
·
Perform basic processing and re-housing of materials.
·
Create finding aids.
·
Utilize Past Perfect collections database.
·
Movement of boxed materials.
·
Digitization of archival materials.
·
Research and write online content related to AAUW history.
Minimum Qualifications:
·
Desire to pursue career in archives field.
·
Strong interest in women's history.
·
Some previous experience with basic processing and developing finding aids.
·
Excellent organizational skills.
·
Attention to detail.
·
Ability to work independently and with others.
·
Ability to lift 25 lbs.
