Purpose
To advance educational and professional opportunities for women in the United
States and around the globe.
Award
Tenable
AAUW has three different graduate fellowship programs: American Fellowship,
International Fellowship, and Selected Professions Fellowship (SPF). All three are
tenable at U.S. institutions.
Number & Amount
“More than 241 fellowships and grants to outstanding women and nonprofits” in
2015-16. Distribution among the individual fellowships is not known. Amounts:

$6,000 - $30,000
$18,000 - $30,000
$5,000 - $18,000
One year of funding.
Eligibility
Who
Women only. Eligible majors and citizenship vary:

International
Selected Professions
Any field. US citizen or permanent resident.
Any field. Must NOT be US citizens.
Architecture, Computer/Information Science, Engineering, or
Mathematics/Statistics. MBA. Law and Medicine are also options for
women of color. US citizen or permanent resident.
When

Selected Professions
Dissertation or Postdoctoral. Also a short-term research option.
Masters, Doctoral or Postdoctoral
Master or Professional
Selection Criteria
Each program varies slightly in focus but this statement from AAUW captures the
general profile: “Their intellect, dedication, imagination, and effort promise to forge
new paths in scholarship, improve the quality of life for all, and tackle the
educational and social barriers facing women worldwide.”
