JOB PURPOSE To assess, plan, implement and evaluate the healthcare needs of critically ill patients and develop specialised programmes/systems of nursing care and treatment. To work as part of the Multi-Disciplinary / Multi-Agency Team. To take charge of a ward or equivalent sphere in the absence of the person with continuing responsibility. To assist in the organisation of SHDU to ensure the highest standards of care, personnel and performance management. To play a lead role within the clinical area modernisation and redesign. 3. SCOPE AND RANGE The post holder will provide effective and individualised nursing care and treatment to identified patients whilst operating as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. The post holder will be expected to supervise, teach, mentor, coach and support, pre-registration students and junior staff nurses and peers engaged in CPD The post holder will take charge of the clinical area in accordance with the needs of the unit The post holder will be expected to carry out all forms of care without direct supervision. The post holder will work as part of the multi-disciplinary / multi-agency team and will be required to supervise a team of staff. The post holder will be expected to lead a team of staff The post holder will liaise with senior nurses to ensure any issues relating to bed management or staffing are dealt with effectively ensuring skill mix and workload is planned ahead and maintained. MAIN DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES To assess, plan, implement and evaluate highly specialist nursing care and treatment for critically ill patients on a 1:1 or 1:2 basis To take a lead role in co-ordinating the patient’s journey through implementation and evaluation of policy & procedure. To ensure and promote the individual’s confidentiality, dignity and privacy. To participate in and promote clinical supervision. To take part in inter and intra hospital transfer of critically ill patients. Communicate and work with individuals and members of the multi-disciplinary / multi-agency team The post-holder will be expected to gather, understand, interperate and relay complex information to other members of the multi-disciplinary team, patients and carers. PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF THE JOB Moderate degree of stamina is required. Will be required to manoeuvre patients using safe moving & handling techniques. Frequent need for patient moving and handling using specialist devices and techniques, ensuring safety of patients, staff and all invasive lines, ET tubes etc due to complete dependence of critically ill patients Required to work safely within a confined area where optimal access to the patient may be compromised due to specialised equipment and lack of space.
