Call For Artist- An invitation to become the 2015 Annual Seafood Festival Commemorative Poster Artist The North Carolina Seafood Festival is a not for profit organization which promotes, educates, and publicizes the importance of our local seafood industry to our local community along with promoting the tourism and recreation within eastern North Carolina in the non-summer months. The 29th Annual North Carolina Seafood Festival will occur on October 2-4, 2015. The Annual North Carolina Seafood Festival Commemorative Poster has become a highly anticipated and collected item. We invite all North Carolina artists to submit your rendition for consideration to be named the 2015 Commemorative Poster. Criteria for Submitting: •Artist must be North Carolina residents •Artwork must be original work that has never been presented for public viewing •When submitting your artwork, please understand that the content may be anything that depicts the local seafood industry (both commercial and recreational), local tourism (scenes that make the Crystal Coast unique such as our local waterfronts, the Shackleford Horses, our beautiful sunrises and sunsets, historic seafood sites such as restaurants, seafood houses – anything that makes our area stand out – and don’t forget that you can include scenes from the Seafood Festival.) In choosing your scene selection please take into consider the resalable qualities of your print. We have found that our buyers prefer colorful paintings with limited facial views. •A copy of the Festival’s Mission Statement is attached. •The original painting will travel to different areas within Carteret County from April until the end of September. The painting will be donated to the Town of Morehead City at the Opening Ceremonies where it will be permanently displayed at Town Hall. How to Submit: •Artist will be required to submit a 22’ x 28’ painting between October 20-24, 2014 from 9:00am – 5:00pm. No artwork will be accepted before October 20th. Paintings can be mailed or hand delivered to 412- D Evans Street, Morehead City, North Carolina. All paintings must be received by 4:00 pm on Friday, October 24th. No painting will be accepted after this time. •All entries must be labeled with name, address, phone number, and email address. If you want your painting returned by mail, please include a return postage paid appropriate mailing container. The North Carolina Seafood Festival will not be responsible for loss or damage to your painting during the time that it is in the Festival’s possession. We will make every effort to ensure that your painting is secure during it’s time at the Festival office. •Please include a portfolio and biography outlining recent awards, shows in which you were involved and other information that you feel are important •No entry fees are charged Selection Process •Artwork will be judged by the North Carolina Seafood Festival Board of Directors which consists of 24 voting members. •Artwork not meeting the criteria for the Commemorative Poster will not be considered. •Voting on the 2015 Commemorative Painting will occur on Monday, November 3, 2014. Artists will be notified of the selection decision not later than November 7, 2014. The Winning Artist Will Receive: •The winning artist will receive a cash award in the amount of $700.00 •The Festival will unveil the 2015 Painting at the annual Poster Unveiling in the spring of 2015 which will include local television and newspaper representatives in attendance. •Press releases promoting the painting and artist will follow the Unveiling announcing the 2015 Commemorative Poster. •The 2015 Poster will be promoted on the Festival’s website, brochures and tabloids leading up to the Festival which provides massive exposure for the winning artist. •The winning artist will be invited to exhibit at the October 2-4, 2015 Festival and will be given a complementary 10’x10’ booth (value of $315.00). •The artist will be invited to attend the Opening Ceremonies which will occur on Thursday, October 1, 2015 to officially turn the painting over to the Town of Morehead City. •The Festival will enter the 2015 Commemorative Poster into statewide and international contests for best Commemorative Poster. Winners will receive the recognition of being known as an “award winning artist” which can be used within the artist bios after 2015. The purpose of the Festival is to: PROMOTE the positive social and economic impact of the seafood industry on the citizens of North Carolina; EDUCATE the public about seafood and its importance to the state economy; PUBLICIZE the wide variety of seafood indigenous to North Carolina and provide the opportunity for people to enjoy it; PROMOTE TOURISM AND RECREATION in eastern North Carolina in the nonsummer months; ESTABLISH A SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM for educational pursuits related to the seafood industry; PROVIDE THE OPPORTUNITY for North Carolina nonprofit civic, church and educational organizations to raise funds through participation in the Festival.
