Classes will be filled on a first come, first served basis with priority given to 11th and 12th graders. Classes must have a minimum enrollment of 15 students. Parents will be notified if a class is cancelled. The forms require a signature of the home school principal or his/her designee and the school’s guidance counselor. Non-City Schools’ students may acquire a registration form from the nearest public high school. Payment by money order only must accompany completed, signed registration form. There are reduced cost waivers for families who have met the qualifications for fee reduced/free cost lunches (50%). Students must have 20 or fewer absences in order to qualify. Non-City Schools’ students are not eligible for waivers. Payment and registration materials must be brought to the student’s chosen summer school site on the dates listed using the student’s last name. The last day for summer school registration is Tuesday, June 24, 2014. Students must register for summer school by late registration. FEES for Original Credit and Recovery Credit Courses City Schools’ Students One Credit Course $150.00 Half Credit Course $ 75.00 There is no fee for Bridge. City Schools’ Charter Students Please check with your school to see whether it offers these or other summer learning programs and to find out how to register. Non- City Schools’ Students One Credit Course $700.00 Half Credit Course $350.00 *Original Credit Courses One original credit may be earned when the student is enrolled for the first time. No original credit courses will be offered in English II, Biology, or Algebra I for students who are first time test takers and must pass the HSA as a graduation requirement. Students must have passed the HSA course and have failed the HSA associated with the course, at least once. Students may only enroll in Summer Bridge if they have 4 or more projects in a content area. Students may enroll in Bridge and one additional course. Students must present an Bridge eligibility letter in order to register. Special Education Services Students who have an active IEP will be provided resource assistance in the general education classes in which the students are enrolled. Student Behavior The summer high school programs are not part of the State Mandated Free Public Education programs offered by City Schools. Therefore, those provisions of the Code of Conduct that deal specifically with the number of suspension days are not applicable. Expectations for student behavior are outlined in the Code of Conduct. Students must adhere to the rules and regulations set forth in the Code of Conduct. Students may be automatically withdrawn from summer school due to consistent infractions of the Code of Conduct. If a student is withdrawn due to inappropriate behavior a refund will not be given. Summer School Attendance Policy Summer school students shall attend class unless prevented by severe illness, death in the family, or court related matters. Summer school students who miss 10% (3 days) of a class will receive a failing grade for that class. Arriving at school on time is very important to learning. Three latenesses will constitute one absence. Students whose attendance or punctuality do not meet the above requirements will be withdrawn from the summer school program This will be done after the school contacts parents/guardians by phone or mail, by counseling and/or by parent conferences. Refunds will not be given. Refund Policy Requests for refunds must be made to the summer school office of the school where the student is registered on or before July 1, 2014. Refunds will be mailed after August 10, 2014. There will be no refunds for students who have been withdrawn due to chronic absences, lateness, or offenses against the Code of Conduct.
