Keri Thompson Fundamentals of Speech 10-31-2014 Goal Statement: The goal of this speech is to introduce myself to others so they can learn a little more about me. Thesis Statement: There is more to a person than often meets the eye. Introduction: There is more to a person than often meets the eye. Thinking about that, do you really know me as well as you think you do? I’m going to spend the next few minutes telling you a little about myself. I’d like to start from the beginning, my childhood. I.) Main Point – I was born in Phoenix Arizona but my mom and I moved to Kansas when I was about three years old because we had family here and she didn’t want to raise me in a big city. a.) Subordinate – Phrase – Moved around a lot b.) Subordinate – Phrase – Dropped out of high-school c.) Subordinate – Phrase – Got CNA license When I was twenty I started dating Brian, who is now my husband. II.) Main Point – We had known each other for several years through mutual friend but never really got to know each other. a.) Subordinate – Phrase – Dating and marriage b.) Subordinate – Phrase –Working at CHCSEK c.) Subordinate – Phrase –Pushed for school After a lot of debate, I took the plunge and decided to go to college to become a nurse. III.) Main Point – Even though I was scared about going to college, I have excelled and am about to graduate from the nursing program in May. a.) Subordinate – Phrase- Got involved in college b.) Subordinate – Phrase- Returning to CHC c.) Subordinate – Phrase- Career goal But for now, I am keeping my options open because I am interested in a lot of different areas of nursing. Therefore, I’m just going to wait and see where the road takes me. Conclusion – So, that is me in a nutshell. I hope that all of you were able to get to know a little more about me. To many of you, I am just another college student. But, as I said before, there is more to a person than often meets the eye. Thank you.
