Reading:
The children will be learning to find information from a text and use this information to make notes and create a poster.
Children will be taken to the library regularly as well as being encouraged to use the class library each day. There are regular opportunities to read for enjoyment in the classroom and the children may bring in their own book from home if they wish to do so. As well as using the library to read for enjoyment the children will learn to use the library to carry out research related to their topic.
Writing This term children will learn how to write imaginative stories and posters.
Listening and Talking The children will work on developing good talking and listening skills whilst working within in a group. The children will work closely on certain tasks with their talking partners.
- length and area. The children will learn to estimate the area of simple shapes. They will learn to estimate the length of objects by using metres and half metres.
Position and movement - the children will learn use coordinates to find and plot points on a grid.
They will also learn to recognise and name the points of a compass.
The children will learn to add and subtract within one hundred using tens and units. The children will also begin to learn multiplication.
The children will be learning about the importance of road safety and strategies for keeping safe whilst walking near to or crossing a road. They will also follow the Cool in
School programme which will allow them to learn strategies to deal with challenging situations in a confident and positive manner.
Romans – the children will learn to use mapping skills to find out where the
Romans came from and where they travelled to. They will also investigate Roman homes, clothes and daily lives.
. The children will use their knowledge to design and create a Roman house.
The children will learn about Christianity and Judaism.
Art and Design The children will learn about line and tone as they create different pieces of artwork.
Music Singing and Using Instruments – the children will learn to sing and play music from other styles and cultures. They will also learn Christmas carols and songs as they prepare for their Festive
Celebration.
Drama The children will learn about movement and mime based on the theme of the Romans.
P.E Basic moves indoors with the specialist and outdoors with the class teacher.
