The transmitter detects your heart rate continuously and transmits it to the wrist receiver. The elastic strap holds the transmitter in the correct position. Keep the wrist receiver within 1 meter/ 3 feet of your transmitter. Check that you are not near other people with heart rate monitors or any source of electromagnetic disturbance. 1. Attach the transmitter to the elastic strap. 2. Adjust the strap length to fit snugly and comfortably. Secure the strap around your chest, just below the chest muscles, and buckle it. 10 3. Lift the transmitter off your chest and moisten the two grooved electrode areas on the back. 4. Check that the wet electrode areas are firmly against your skin and the Polar logo is in a central, upright position. How to manually take a reading 1. Press and hold button (E) on the Monitor for 3 seconds. 2. The monitor will read and display heart rate and blood pressure. Automatic Readings As long as the HR/BP Monitor is worn, the HR/BP Monitor will automatically take your heart rate and blood pressure every 15 minutes each day. If you are not wearing the Monitor, it will detect the zero readings for heart rate and blood pressure. These readings will not be stored in the Monitor’s memory or in any of your readings history data on the P3C central server. The Monitor is capable of holding up to 9600 readings at a time, which is over 3 months worth. 11 Cleaning the Transmitter 1. Carefully wash the transmitter with a mild soap and water solution. 2. Rinse it with pure water. 3. Dry the transmitter carefully with a soft towel. 4. Keep the wrist receiver clean and wipe off any moisture. Dirt impairs the elasticity and functioning of the transmitter. Daily use of the Docking Station Ideally, the HR/ BP Monitor should be synchronized with the docking station every day. The P3C team suggests doing this before you go to bed. 1. Insert the HR/BP Monitor into the cradle. a. Make sure the port on the monitor and docking station are free from obstructions. b. Also be sure to align the ports. 2. The recharging light should be lit green to indicate that the monitor is recharging its battery. 12 3. The Docking Station screen should now display a progress meter for the duration of the synchronization with the HR/BP Monitor. 4. Once the synchronization with the HR/BP Monitor is complete, the Docking Station will automatically send the new data to our central servers by dialing in through the telephone cord. 5. At our servers, the data will be analyzed, and the server will send an appropriate feedback. 13 FEEDBACK All feedback will display on the Docking Station screen. Feedback types include text and graphs. TEXT FEEDBACK SUMMARY Mode The feedback that will automatically be displayed is one of the following text messages. 1. Good: A message will signify that your data is within acceptable bounds to indicate that there are no significant problems. 2. Warning: A message will signify that your data is significantly out of range and into warning levels. A call from a P3C technician may also follow. 14 3. Failure to adhere to the following safety precautions can result in potential electrical shock or fire hazards. Keep this User’s Manual in a convenient location for future reference. 1. Water and Moisture - Do not use the P3C Docking Station near water - for example, near a kitchen sink, bathtub, washbowl, or laundry tub, in a wet basement, or near a swimming pool, etc. Do not wear the P3C BP/HR Wrist Monitor while in water, or while wet – for example, while showering, swimming, or bathing, etc. 2. Ventilation - Ensure that the ventilation slots on the P3C Docking Station are unobstructed, and that the flow of air through the ventilation slots is unimpeded. Blocking the ventilation slots could lead to the device overheating. 3. Heat - The appliance should be situated away from heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other appliances (including amplifiers) that produce heat. 4. Objects and Liquids - Care should be taken so that objects do not fall and liquids are not spilled into any openings or vents located on the product. 5. Power Sources - This product should be operated only from the type of power source indicated on the rating label. If you are not sure of the type of power supply to your home, consult your product dealer or local power company. For products intended to operate from battery power, or other sources, refer to the operating instructions. 19 6. Grounding or Polarization - The P3C Communicator is equipped with a polarized AC power cord plug (a plug having one blade wider than the other). This plug will fit into the power outlet only one way. This is a safety feature. If you are unable to insert the plug fully into the outlet, try reversing the plug. If the plug still fails to fit, contact your electrician to have a suitable outlet installed. Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized plug by forcing it in. 7. Power-Cord Protection - Power supply cords should be routed so that they are not likely to be walked on or pinched by items placed upon or against them. It is always best to have a clear area from where the cord exits the unit to where it is plugged into an AC outlet. 8. Lightning - For added protection for this product during a lightning storm, or when it is left unattended and unused for long periods of time, unplug it from the wall outlet and disconnect the phone cord. This will prevent damage to the product due to lightning and power-line surges. 9. Non-use Periods - The power cord of the P3C Docking Station should be unplugged from the outlet when left unused for a long period of time. 10. Cleaning - The appliance should be cleaned only as recommended by the manufacturer. Clean by wiping with a lint-free cloth slightly damp with water. Avoid getting water inside the appliance. 11. Attachments - Do not use attachments not recommended by the product manufacturer. 12. Attaching the P3C BP/HR Wrist Monitor to the P3C Docking Station Incorrectly attaching the P3C BP/HR Wrist Monitor to the P3C Docking Station can 20 lead to fire, electrical shock, or a malfunction of one or more components of the P3C Communicator. Ensure that you have fully read and understood the operating instructions, before attempting to attach the P3C BP/HR Wrist Monitor to the P3C Docking Station. 13. Opening the P3C Docking Station’s Case - Never open the P3C Docking Station’s case. Doing so will put you at an increased risk of electrical shock. Furthermore, any unauthorized tampering with the case of the P3C Docking Station will void the Warranty. 14. Damage Requiring Service - Unplug the P3C Docking Station from the wall outlet and refer to qualified service personnel under the following conditions: A. When the power cord or plug is damaged or frayed. B. If any component of the P3C Communicator has been exposed to rain, water, or any liquid. C. If the P3C Communicator has been subject to excessive shock by being dropped. D. If the P3C Communicator does not operate normally when following the operating instructions. 15. Servicing - Do not attempt to service the P3C Docking Station yourself since opening the P3C Docking Station case may expose you to dangerous voltage or other hazards. Refer all servicing to qualified service personnel. Any attempts to self-service the P3C Communicator will void the Warranty. 16. Replacement Parts – When replacement parts are required, be sure the service technician has used replacement parts specified by the manufacturer or have the same 21 characteristics as the original part. Unauthorized substitutions may result in fire, electrical shock, or other hazards. 17. Safety Check - Upon completion of any service or repairs to this product, ask the service technician to perform safety checks to determine that the product is in proper operating condition. 22 P3C Communicator FAQ Q: How many readings is the P3C Heart Rate / Blood Pressure Monitor capable of holding? A: The P3C Heart Rate / Blood Pressure Monitor is capable of storing about 9600 readings. In other words, the P3C Heart Rate / Blood Pressure Monitor can hold readings taken every fifteen minutes for three months. Q: What happens if I don't wear the P3C Heart Rate / Blood Pressure Monitor? A: If you don't wear the P3C Heart Rate / Blood Pressure Monitor, we will not be able to help you. The purpose of this system is to track your blood pressure and heart rate. If you do not wear the device, we cannot monitor these statistics. Q: Why does a P3C Customer Service Representative keep calling me? A: If a Customer Service Representative keeps calling you, it is probably because your readings are consistently in the caution or alert category. Q: Why do I have to provide an emergency contact? A: You should provide P3C with an emergency contact in case if your submitted readings are in a dangerous range. In this situation it would be ideal for P3C to contact someone in order to ensure that a catastrophe can be averted. 23 Q: How does P3C know that I am the one using the Heart Rate / Blood Pressure Monitor? A: P3C does not know you are the one using the Heart Rate / Blood Pressure Monitor. Q: What happens if I take a reading of someone else's info? Will it ruin the rest of my data? A: No. If it is a bad reading, it will not be considered when analyzing future data. If the reading is accepted as within your norms, however, call P3C and a Customer Service Representative will assist you. Q: How does the P3C data analysis work? A: The P3C analysis software compares your current data to saved historical data as well as accepted norms for heart rate and blood pressure. If the readings are outside of the expected range, then an error is generated. Q: Can I still use the P3C Heart Rate / Blood Pressure Monitor without a subscription? A: Yes. Without a subscription, however, you will not be capable of submitting your data for analysis. Q: Can I have more than one user account? 24 A: No. The P3C Communicator is designed for one user. If more than one person in the household needs to use the device, you should purchase another docking station. Q: What happens if my account expires? A: If your account expires, you will have 90 days to retrieve your data from our systems. P3C can send your historical data to you or to your physician. Q: What if I cancel my subscription, save my data, and then sign back up for the P3C analysis service? A: The P3C Central Server will archive user's historical data for 90 days. After this, there is no guarantee that your historical data will still be accurate. In the case that your data is removed, you may still sign up for service, but will start with no historical data. 25 P3C Communicator TROUBLESHOOTING Problem Resolution I cannot set the watch functions of the Please refer to page 5 for a HR/BP Monitor. comprehensive description of all the HR/BP Monitor’s watch functions.
