Dr. Malik Raheem Dr. Malik Aqueel Raheem, NCC, LCPC, ACS, is an assistant professor in the Counselor Education and Rehabilitation department. Dr. Raheem is a National Certified Counselor, Approved Clinical Supervisor, and a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in the great state of Illinois. Dr. Raheem was born and raised in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Chicago State University where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Masters of Arts in Community Counseling. He has worked for several years in hospital and community agency settings. He worked for four years at River-edge Hospital, the largest psychiatric hospital in Illinois. He worked for an organization named One Hope United. His clinical focus includes atrisk youth, adults, families’ in-crisis, groups, and couples. He has a clinical focus on (a) intimate partner violence, (b) psychosocial mental health development issues, (c) personality disorders, (d) interpersonal relationships, (d) group dynamics, and (f) intergenerational trauma issues. In 2012, he completed the requirements for his doctorate in Counselor education and Supervision from Northern Illinois University. His research interests include (a) ethnic and racial identity development, (b) racial Microaggressions, and racial battle fatigue (c) multiculturalism in counselor education, (d) counseling Muslims, (f) interpersonal relationships, (g) personality disorders, and (h) mental health issues with people of African descent.
