Open registration for the up-coming school year has begun. Class positions are filling up quickly and our goal is to fill them with our current students first. If you need registration materials, please contact the office. If you have not returned your registrations, please do so as soon as possible. Please remember that the registration fee is now $50.00.
Please remember that tuition preschool and extended care is due whether or not your child is in attendance. This month all families will receive a statement with their current tuition account. If your child’s tuition is in arrears, please contact the office so that we can remedy this situation.
Thank you to all our families who contributed and participating in our
Beef and Beer Fundraiser. It was a lot of fun and we raised money to help improve our computers and music technology. A special thank you to Mrs. Burdett, Mrs. Hultberg and Mrs. Terranova who worked very hard to put this event together. We really appreciate everything they did.
Parent/Teacher conferences will be held Thursday, March 6 th and
Friday, March 7 th . These meetings are for teachers and parents only. School will be closed on these days but supervised play will be available. Please contact the office if you need to sign your child up for this service.
To Mrs. Meghan Flachier (Adam’s mom) for organizing and hosting a trip to the Center for Creative Arts.

Mrs. Terranova and Ms. Murphy we still had lots to learn!
What a crazy month we had with all the snow!!! Even though we missed some school days
We continued our units on colors and shapes! First we talked about the color "pink" and shape "triangles!" We made a "pink" pig! They had to listen to the directions and place each shape accordingly! This is a great listening skill exercise! We built with pink blocks and put together pink connectors!
Next, we talked about the color "red" and shape" heart!" We made dinosaurs with "red heart" bones! We made our hand-prints with "red" paint! We sorted red bears by size and counted them too! We also celebrated Valentines day with a party and handing out Valentines. Since this week was short because of the snow, we continued our celebration through the next week!! We were full of love!!!
Then we discussed the color "orange" and "Square" We sorted out orange counting bears and buried them in the sand. They had to use their large motor skills and scoop out them out. We also painted with a strawberry basket and made "orange" "square" prints! We built with orange blocks and we discussed how high we can build before they fell over!!!
Last we talked about "brown" and "rectangle!" We had fun making brown bears with brown cinnamon. They had to put glue all over the brown bear cut out and sprinkled brown cinnamon ontop. It made the bear look fuzzy! They also enjoyed smelling the cinnamon! We built with brown blocks and made a long line with them. We also pushed cars around the track!
Wanted to thank our homeroom moms, Becky (sylvie's mom) and Megan (Lola's mom) for all their help with the valentine's party! They children really appreciate it!
Also thank you for the parents that came out to support our school at our Beef and Beer! We hope you had fun, so much fun that we will see you all again next year!!!!
** Looking forward to seeing you all at our conference's which are held on Thursday,
March 6th and Friday, March 7th!
Mrs. Jack and Mrs. Robertson
February was a long, cold, snowy month for being the shortest month of the year! The classes spent the beginning of the month learning all about the Winter Olympics! We painted the 5 Olympic rings, made torches, and even made gold medals from a cookie! Did you eat your medal? We went snowboarding right in the classroom! Check out our picture of the real snowboard and boots outside of our classroom. 4 students could fit on it at one time! USA, USA, USA!!!
We had a special visit from Mr. Vogel who taught us about pets and how to care for them. The children loved hearing about Rags the dog and were even treated to a visit from Rags the puppet. They had a lot of laughs watching Mr. Vogel and Rags !
Learning how to share and treat everyone with kindness lead us into Valentine’s Day. We worked hard on making our special Valentine’s Day present and took our pictures saying “ I love you!“ The classes focused on colors, red, pink , and white. We painted with red and white and watched it mix to pink! The Valentine’s Day parties were a lot of fun! Thanks to everyone who brought in treats to share! Yummy!
We have been focusing our Wednesdays on SCIENCE and doing experiments! We are becoming great scientists! We watched “snow” grow in a dish! Look for more exciting science experiments coming up! Magnets and trying to grow our own avacado plant from the avacado pit!
We finished up February with units on Pirates and The Five Senses!
ARRRGH MATEY! “Do Pirates Take Baths? “ and , “How I Became a Pirate !” were some great books to read! We got to wear eye patches and skull rags and make treasure maps! Our sand table was filled with gold coins and treasures to dig for! X marks the spot! Learning about how important our 5 Senses are was very interesting!
Smelling some things that didn’t smell so good was yucky! Oh but the things that smelled sweet ,thank you noses! Tasting sweet and salty and deciding what we liked best…potato chips and marshmellows were the best tasting!
Let’s hope March comes in like a lamb not a lion! We could use some warmer, spring like weather! We will be celebrating St. Patrick’s Day and the color green! That sneaky Leprechaun tricks us every year! We will be trying to catch him again! We will have conferences on March 6 th and 7 th so please look for a sign up at your child’s classroom!
Mrs. Del Grosso and Mrs. Flachier
Well, in spite of the cold, dreary days of winter, our class has been filled with bright colors, exercise and games and lots of giggles! We started off the month of February getting ready for
Valentine’s Day. Okay, we didn’t exactly celebrate on Valentine’s Day, but we still had a great party and received many valentine cards and treats from our friends. Then we held our very own “Zions
Olympics 201 4” Pancake Day was a favorite for the boys and girls. We made pancakes in a frying pan for craft time and tried to flip them like the characters in our story. We found out it wasn’t as easy as it looks. Then the children made pancakes with Mrs. Flachier, ate them for a special snack and even and shared some with our four year old friends.
In March we will begin our “Everyday Math” unit. We will discover just how important numbers are in our daily routines. The arrival of Spring will be a great time to learn and discover!
We can’t wait for sunshine and warmer weather!
The children will continue to work on their fine motor skills with cutting, coloring, drawing and writing activities.
We look forward to seeing all of you during report card conferences. Please make sure to set up a conference time
Mrs. Burdett
When a child says they are sick of the snow then we know we have had too much! I hope we are finished with the snowy weather and snow days. Every teacher likes a few but this is just plain ridiculous! I was happy to finally have a full week of school the last week of February.
The time we did have in school this month was very busy. We discussed our 5 senses. We experimented with each sense. We painted using Kool Aid as a scratch and sniff paint. What fun the children had trying to guess the flavor. Using all of taste buds was accomplished as we tasted salty, sweet, and sour foods. That is always fun seeing the children’s faces as they taste the sour! We were able to use our sense of feel on our field trip. The children made a beautiful claytrays which should be ready any day now. Each child were able to mold with the clay and experiment with the texture. After they finished molding their tray, they painted them in many vibrant colors.
What a wonderful job they all did, I cannot wait to see the finished product! Although I had other Valentine craft planned we were only allotted enough time to do 2. We worked very hard to get at least the 2 of them finished before the next snow storm. The last week of February was the start of our human body unit. We began the unit with the food pyramid. We worked hard on learning what foods are good for us and how it is important to eat from each food group daily.
As we begin March we will continue on with our body unit and learn about what makes our bodies work. This is always a very interesting topic to discuss with the children. Be prepared for all kinds of questions as we get underway with this unit! March we will also celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. We are hoping that this is our year to trap that pesky leprechaun! We will be sending a paper home soon explaining our leprechaun trap project. We will end the month with the start to our spring unit. Let’s hope for warmer spring like weather to coincide with our unit!
March also brings conference time. Please remember to sign up on the classroom door if you have not done so.
Please remember to send in your juice if March is your juice month.
Please continue to encourage your child to zipper their own jackets. Thank you!
Have a great March and pray for warm sunny days ahead!
Mrs. Hawk, Mrs. Zabielski and Miss Arms
We all know February is the month of love. We talk about all the people in our lives we love and all that things that we “love” but the one thing I don’t love anymore is
SNOW!I think we have had enough!! It seemed like we barely had any school this month because of the snow, but we sure made good use of the time we had.
It was Gregory’s special month. All those groundhogs who looked for their shadow were really cold I’m sure; but Gregory was snug as a bug in a rug for our
Groundhog day. We actually call it Gregory Day. Gregory in fact has actually had several days. Every weekend he has had such a great time going to everyone’s house and spending time with different families. He has been to everyone’s house and is on round 2 right now. So get ready to play host family to a groundhog soon.
We did get a chance to make a few Valentine crafts this month. Between our alphabet and number journey and the days off, we didn’t have the amount of time we wanted to devote to remembering our loved ones but we did make some cool minion valentines. It was really hard not to eat them ourselves but we remembered to put others first.
We did get to discover our creativity when we went to the Center for Creative
Arts with Mrs. Flachier to learn about making pottery. We learned all about clay and how to work with it. We saw the artist workshop with the pottery wheels and the kiln that fires all the pottery artwork. We even made a clay bowl of our own! Molding it and sculpting it to express our own creativity and then painting it. Mrs. Flachier then glazed and fired them in the kiln. When she brought them to school, it was amazing to see that they looked even better than before! We are artists!! Thank you Mrs. Flachier and all our parent chaperones who made this trip possible.
Next month we will learn about the human body and how it works. So far we started at the top. The brain is the boss of our bodies and we know that nothing works without first going through the brain. We learned that our brain has different parts that control the different areas of our bodies. It’s pretty funny that such a yucky gray mess is the CEO of the body. Yellow or blue are such commanding colors….gray?
I guess it’s really not about looks when it comes to your body. Next, we will move onto the heart, lungs, bones, then it’s all that other stuff that makes us what we are. It’s an exciting excursion!
March also brings that tricky little Leprechaun who visits the halls of Zion every year. We know that he hides his pot of gold somewhere and if we catch him, he has to give us that gold. So, this year, we are pulling out all the stops to catch this guy! Don’t spend the money yet, but I’m getting a good feeling about this year!
I have a great feeling about our conferences this month. It’s such a great time to talk to our families about how wonderful your children are at school. We are having a great time and it’s a pleasure sharing our experiences with you.
Mrs. Roehm and Miss Arms
Greetings from room 6! We have been working really hard the month of February. We reviewed beginning and ending sounds as well as worked on recognizing word families. I love seeing their faces light up when they find sight words in our library books and/or start sounding out words. All of these are fabulous signs of their young minds developing the tools needed to read. In addition, we continued to practice our sight words by adding at least three to our focus wall each week. To differentiate for each student, I created individual sight word charts based on his/her readiness level. In math, we continued to practice the math concept of addition. Each student worked hard adding up to ten.
During the month of March, I have big goals for room 6! We will be celebrating our one hundredth day of school within this month with the theme 100 days smarter. The children have been very excited about this party and knowing it is almost here, they can hardly contain themselves. I have a big day planned with math ideas, crafts, books, and more. I hope each of my students will remember his/her 100 th day of kindergarten for many years to come!
Other than that fabulous learning holiday, we are also starting creative writing. We have been practicing writing words and single sentences all year and now each student is ready to write more. Each student now has their own journal and we have been working hard on learning what makes a good writer. We have/will talk about punctuation, capitalization, finger spacing, and adding details!! We have been working on these concepts the last few weeks of February and hopefully in March, each student will learn to love writing in his/her journal. In reading, the children are also noticing they can read books! I have leveled readers for each of my students and I love how they jump up and down after completing a book. Each of my students’ goal is to learn to read. I am so grateful for this because they never complain about learning sight words or working on language arts skills.
In math, the children have done a fabulous job with addition. Each student love using bears as manipulatives to help solve the equations. With that said, if ever your child receives homework that he/she seems to struggle with, remind him/her to use things around the house for help. I have given the children ideas of using toy cars, books, dolls, money, etc. Each of those items will allow the children to group and solve.
We will also begin working on subtraction this month. Once addition and subtraction come easy for each of my students, I will also introduce money. Money is a fun unit for the children. We will learn values of coins and will even create a classroom store to practice adding and subtracting money. I am so proud of the progress each student has made thus far and know we still have a lot to learn. We only have three months left of school!
Mrs. Hultberg, Mrs. Murphy and Mrs. Sadowski
We can’t say “Dela where” anymore. We have been learning all about our small but mighty state this month. From our famous blue hen to our little ladybug, we have explored Delaware from the northern tip to the southern shores. Just ask us what the capitol of Delaware is. We may say Wilmington first but then we will tell you Dover. Maybe that’s because we think the capitol should be Wilmington.
Our numbers are growing and we welcome anyone who would like to spend some extra time at school. You can do one, two, three, four or even five days a week. It’s a cool time with great friends and lots of learning too!
Senora Robertson
Hola! Adios invierno y bienvenidos primavera! Goodbye winter and welcome spring! The kindergarten,
3 and 4 year old classes are doing a great job learning, ? Que tiempo hace hoy? What is the weather like today?
Febrero hace frio y mucho nieve! Let’s hope spring is right around the corner!
In febrero we learned some Valentine words in espanol…te amo -I love you! All the classes read , ?
Como te amo? How do I love you? We love in many ways and our corazons are big enough to love a lot!
We listened to Kiss is a Beso, Beso es un Kiss! Our puppet Boca loves to give kisses!
Aqui y alli-here and there is now a favorite song! Are you aqui or alli?
We will keep listening too and learning many new songs in espanol!
The kindergarten, 3 and 4 year are listening to many bilingual stories! We will be starting, “ Un
Regalo Para Papa Diego“- A Gift for Papa Diego! The children love this story and are eager to hear how
Little Diego gets to see his abuelo-grandfather who lives far away in Mexico! The 2 year olds listened to the story of Elmo and what he loves-he loves escuela! They also heard Dora Loves Boots-son amigos- friends!
The 4 year olds are working hard at counting to 30 and beyond! The 3 year olds are not to far behind! We played some number bingo and will continue to work on los numerous en espanol! The 2 year olds can count to 10 and love our new counting song- 10 juguetes-10 Toys!
Marzo we will learn the body parts in espanol and play some Simon Says in espanol. Divertido! The kindergarten, 3 and 4 year olds will also learn some of the names of the people in their familia-family!
Everyone still loves dancing, singing, and shaking the maracas to our Latin American music or to some classic songs- like B I N G O in espanol!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day to all!
Mrs. Jack
Wow – February has come and gone very quickly! We have been working very hard in our Music and
Movement class though. We started the month off by working on our ball handling skills. The children went bowling – watch out professional bowlers because our kids are AWESOME! We also worked on our throwing and catching skills. The children practiced throwing a ball at different types of targets, rolling a ball with a partner and catching a bouncing ball. The month concluded with one of our “Moving Days” and with dancing and moving to songs like The Fish Song and “Head-Shoulders-Knees-Toes”.
During the month of March, we will be reviewing our throwing skills and start working on striking skills. This will include hitting a ball off a batting tee. After all, baseball season is right around the corner!
We will also review our jumping and balancing skills. As always, we will continue to focus on our cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength.
We’ll also keep an eye out for that sneaky Leprechaun because you never know when and where he may show up!
