Placement Agreement
ARTICLE 1
PARTIES

ARTICLE 2
PURPOSE
The placement is a planned period of work and an intrinsic part
of the degree of «DEGREE»at the University.
Under no circumstances can this present agreement be
considered as an employment contract.
ARTICLE 3
OBLIGATIONS
The University undertakes to:
 Agree with the Placement Organisation a programme
of work for the Student;
 Provide appropriate support and guidance to the
Student; and
 Assign a placement contact to the Student who will
monitor the progress of the Student throughout the
placement period.
The Placement Organisation undertakes to:
 Ensure that the Student properly understands and
agrees the content of their role and to assist the

Student in setting appropriate learning objectives upon
commencement of the placement.
Ensure that the Student’s role and tasks given to
him/her comply with the programme of work agreed
with the University.
Assign a supervisor to the Student who will provide the
Student with a suitable induction to the Placement
Organisation and their role and to provide support
throughout the placement, making the Student aware of
any health and safety regulations, fire drills and
emergency and accident reporting procedures
Adhere at all times to all non-discrimination legislation
and all other appropriate regulations and ensure that
the Student is at all times treated with dignity and
respect.
Provide the Student with an appropriate level of
feedback of the work undertaken during the placement.
Provide training opportunities/opportunities for skills
development for the Student where appropriate.
Not to take any disciplinary or similar action or invoke
any formal procedures in relation to the Student without
prior notification to the University and to permit the
University to be involved in any such procedures.
Notify the University and consult with the Student if
there is to be any significant change required to the
role.
Monitor Student attendance and provide an appraisal at
the end of the placement.
The Student undertakes to:
 Make the most of the learning opportunities offered by
the Placement Organisation.
 Follow all reasonable instructions of his/her supervisor
within the Placement Organisation.
 To comply with all relevant/applicable rules, regulations
and requirements relating to the Placement
Organisation’s place of work (e.g. health and safety
rules, internet/email policy, disciplinary procedures etc.)
 Co-operate with the University by completing reports
and maintaining contact with the University and do
anything else reasonably required by the University to
ensure that their attendance and progress may be
properly monitored and maintained.
ARTICLE 4
OUTCOMES
Intended placement outcomes are for the Student to contribute
to the workplace with reasonable help and guidance from staff
and the University and to gain improved workplace skills.
ARTICLE 5

The placement will run from <insert placement start date> to

ARTICLE 7
ALLOWANCE AND WORKING HOURS

This is an unpaid placement.

The Student will receive an allowance of <insert
amount of allowance to be paid to Student> per
month.

ARTICLE 8
SUPERVISION AND SUPPORT
The Placement Organisation will ensure that the Student is
supervised by an appropriate member of staff during the
placement period. The University will provide support and
guidance as necessary for both the Student and the Placement
Organisation during the placement period.
ARTICLE 9
INSURANCE
Please delete as appropriate:
 The Placement Organisation agrees to insure the
Student comprehensively against accidents whilst at
work and whilst travelling on behalf of the Placement
Organisation.
 The Placement Organisation will not insure the
Student comprehensively against accidents whilst at
work and whilst travelling on behalf of the Placement
Organisation.
If the placement is taking place abroad the Student undertakes
to purchase a comprehensive personal travel insurance policy
to go on placement which must cover the duration of their stay,
to include personal accident insurance, medical insurance and
personal liability insurance.
ARTICLE 10
HEALTH AND SAFETY
The Placement Organisation undertakes to provide a safe
environment for the Student in accordance with local Health
and Safety legislation.
The Student recognises his/her responsibility to behave in a
responsible manner and to not ignore any areas of concern.
ARTICLE 11
CONFIDENTIALITY AND INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
The Student understands that at times s/he may become
involved in confidential issues and undertakes that s/he will not

either during the placement period or at any time after the end
of the placement period disclose to any other person or
otherwise make use of any information about clients, staff, or
their families and/or any information relating to the Placement
Organisation’s products, processes, research and
development pipeline and/or business affairs and/or any
information comprising or relating to the work produced by the
Student during the placement. All patents, registered designs
copyright database rights, know-how, and confidential
information applications for any of the above and any similar
right recognised from time to time in any jurisdiction,
('Intellectual Property') produced or developed by the Student
during the Placement (“Placement IP”) shall belong to the
Placement Organisation and the University and the Student
agree to cooperate in vesting title in such Placement IP in the
Placement Organisation.
Both the University and the Placement Organisation agree that
personal data relating to the Student is held securely and
confidentially and in accordance with UK and other data
protection legislation. The Placement Organisation will not use
or disclose the Student’s personal information for any purpose
other than is necessary for the administration of the Student’s
placement.
ARTICLE 12
HOLIDAY ENTITLEMENT AND ABSENCE

The Student will be entitled to <Insert holiday entitlement>
<paid/unpaid> holiday. In addition, the Student will be entitled
to take any legal holidays recognised by the Placement
Organisation that fall during the placement period. <OR>The
student will not be entitled to take any legal holidays.
Any absence from the Placement Organisation must be agreed
in advance with the Placement Organisation administration.
If the Student is absent from work through illness or for any
other reason the Student agrees to notify the Placement
Organisation immediately and to keep the Placement
Organisation fully informed during the period of absence or
illness. Absence due to illness of 3 days or longer must be
supported by a Doctor’s certificate or otherwise in accordance
with the Placement Organisation’s usual procedure.
ARTICLE 13
REVIEW OF AGREEMENT
If at any time it is established that the Student is not performing
satisfactorily and that the Placement Organisation has
provided reasonable opportunity for training and coaching, the
terms of this agreement may be reviewed. Equally if, at any
time, the Placement Organisation is not providing a satisfactory
placement learning environment for the Student then the terms
of this agreement may be reviewed.

The terms of this placement agreement may not be changed
without prior discussion of all of the parties to this placement
agreement.
ARTICLE 14
RESOLUTION OF DISPUTES
All parties agree that they will attempt to resolve any dispute in
the first instance by mutual consultation and negotiation.
