UK Campus Initiatives
1. Promote UKCI Spring Classes that begin January 15
2. Promote Teaching Chinese as a Second Language joint program by CI Headquarters/Hanban
and UK College of Education & College of A&S. Plan a steering committee meeting in mid-January
to discuss this issue and develop a schedule.
3. Finalize the UKCI 2013 accounting of revenues and expenditures and the 2014 UKCI budget
4. Recruit UK Faculty for the Short-term China Teaching Program
5. UKCI held the yearly Chinese Speech competition for UK Chinese Language students as part of
the national “Chinese Bridge” competition on UK’s campus
6. Design advertisements for and promote UKCI Spring and Summer Camp Program for K-12
students.
7. Promote CI Scholarships and HSK testing for UK students
8. Workshop for the promotion of UK Chinese Study
9. Key Project: On February 20th, 2014, the former governor of Utah, 2012 presidential
candidate and former U.S. Ambassador to China and Singapore, Gov. Jon Huntsman, discussed
“China: Opportunities and Challenges” at 7 p.m. on Thursday, February 20 in UK’s Memorial
Hall (to a full house). The Office of the President, UK International Center and the UK
Confucius Institute sponsored Huntsman’s visit.
10.UKCI was invited by UK’s organization College Mentors for Kids, to deliver a Chinese Language
demo class with games and paper cutting to 3rd and 4th grade students from Fayette County
Public Schools
11. UKCI sent two staff members to the UK “Taste of Our World” event at the UK Student Center
12. Process the 2014 UKCI-SHU Summer Teaching Program Faculty Applications

15. David Adams, a former administrator of the Fulbright Scholar Program, presented a talk entitled
"Chinese-American Educational Exchanges: A Window on the Bilateral Relationship." The event was
sponsored by UKCI and took place on March 25 at the William Young Library Auditorium.
16. UK’s Kentucky Foreign Language Conference, April 10-13, 2014, with Chinese Studies faculty presentations in collaboration with UK’s Chinese Studies Program
