Negotiation and Decision Making: Trust, Emotions, Ethics, and Morality Max H. Bazerman www.people.hbs.edu/mbazerman January Mini-Course (“Camp”) January 17-22, 2010 Hawes 201 Negotiation and Decision Making is a focused research camp for young researchers interested in the subtopics of trust, emotions, ethics, and morality, as they apply to decision making and negotiation. Target audience: Young scholars doing research on negotiation, decision making, trust, emotions, ethics, and morality. Doctoral students are the core audience. Doctoral students, faculty, MBA students interested in pursuing a research career (e.g., those applying to a doctoral program), and a small number of research-focused undergraduates would be welcome. All Harvard doctoral students are welcome in this camp/class. I will review and approve all other interested participants. The camp will also be open to a small number of doctoral students from other universities (at their own expense). The morning lectures will be open to the broader HBS and Harvard community, but the afternoons and lunches with faculty speakers will be limited to actual full-time participants. Thus, the morning will be a common session for all participants, and the afternoon will consist of 3-4 smaller working groups. There will be a cap the number of campers (formal participants) at 40. But, others will be welcome to attend the morning lectures. Activities: The five days will begin with two faculty lectures each morning. I will give multiple lectures, and other colleagues at Harvard and elsewhere will present. The faculty lectures will be open to the Harvard community, and non-campers would be welcome at any/all lectures. The afternoons will be devoted to student presentations and working groups on different research domains (perhaps divided into a) trust, b) emotions, and c) ethics/morality). There will be conference dinners on Sunday and Thursday evenings. Background reading: The mini-course will assume background knowledge of the field of behavioral decision research. One representation of this knowledge is: Bazerman, M.H. & Moore, D. Judgment in Managerial Decision Making, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 2008 (7th Edition). If you plan on attending this mini-course, please send an email to mbazerman@hbs.edu and rahuja@hbs.edu. The email should provide your name, email address, telephone number, department, year of study, and your research interests, including whether or not you have plans to conduct research in each of the following three areas; trust, emotions, ethics/morality. Please note: you will need to register for this mini-course through HBS processes, in addition to sending the email. The working agenda is provided below.
