Environment
The Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority (ASADA) is the Australian Government body
responsible for protecting Australia’s sporting integrity through the elimination of doping.
2.
Purpose of the position
The Science and Results Manager supports the protection of clean athletes by integrating scientific
analysis and advice into ASADA’s detection strategy. Reporting directly to the Director Intelligence,
the Science and Results Manager translates analytical results into influential scientific intelligence to
support the optimal targeting of agency resources.
The successful applicant will lead a team of dedicated individuals in the management of analytical
results, and collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to provide highly valued scientific advice
across a range of complex matters.
3.
Duties
3.1
Lead ASADA’s science and results management resources, driving the development of systems
and processes to ensure they mirror best practice within the international anti-doping
environment, and are aligned with the strategic direction of the agency.
3.2
Manage the achievement of outcomes by the Science and Results Management Team.
3.3
Build ASADA’s intelligence capabilities, coordinating and providing the development of
highly valued science intelligence in support of targeted detection activities.
3.4
Develop and manage relationships with stakeholders relevant to anti-doping science.
3.5
Ensure ASADA has visibility of emerging trends in anti-doping science and doping conduct,
and provide influential advice on the consequence of such developments for the agency.
4.
Key Activities
The Science and Results Manager performs a range of activities which may include, but is not limited
to the following;
4.1
Manage a team carrying out complex and diverse tasks, providing the full range of managerial
support to team members including the motivation of team members, allocation of resources,
coaching and performance review.
4.2
Coordinate and provide highly developed and influential scientific advice on complex antidoping matters, including analytical results, detection options, doping substances, technical
compliance and policy development.
4.3
Develop and implement team level work plans, set priorities and evaluate team activities in
alignment with broader unit and agency level objectives.
4.4
Cooperatively integrate science intelligence within the broader detection activities and
intelligence processes within the agency.
4.5
Represent and advocate on the agency’s behalf on a range of sensitive matters, across a range
of forums.
4.6
Source and develop briefs on substances of relevance to the World Anti-Doping Code.
4.7
Manage contractual arrangements with supporting partners, particularly analytical laboratories.
4.8
Prepare written material including briefs, correspondence, papers, presentations, proposals and
reports on scientific matters relating to intelligence and anti-doping matters.
4.9
Develop effective working relationships with international experts to obtain leading insight into
scientific and technical matters relating to doping in sport.
4.10 Participate in internal projects and working groups as required.

substantial and measurable opportunities for targeting.

Endorse and encourage best-practice recordkeeping in accordance with policies, standards and
guidelines issued by the National Archives of Australia.
Cooperate with the employer and comply with all relevant legislation and ASADA’s health and
safety policies, procedures and instructions.
Work and act safely and take all reasonable care to protect personal health and safety and the
health and safety of others.

Selection Criteria
Selection for this position will be based on an assessment of the applicant’s capability to meet the
Executive Level 1 profile under the Australian Public Service Integrated Leadership System, issued

Postgraduate degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biological Sciences, or other scientific field
relevant to anti-doping is highly desirable.
Knowledge of intelligence methodologies and the ability to apply that knowledge to an antidoping context.
Eligibility Requirements
The successful applicant will have highly developed scientific knowledge in a field directly relevant
to anti-doping. A postgraduate degree in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biological Sciences or other
scientific field relevant to anti-doping is highly desirable.
The successful applicant will be required to undergo a security assessment to obtain a NV1 Security
Clearance. The successful applicant may also be required to undergo a medical assessment.
