This Report summarises the feedback obtained on behalf of the Schools of Medicine in both Cardiff and Swansea Universities from medical students undertaking clinical placements throughout Wales in the 2014-15 academic year. This feedback is collected by staff of the All Wales SIFT Coordinating Unit (“AWSCU”), which is funded by the Welsh Government from SIFT. 2. The on-line Feedback Evaluation Questionnaires issued to medical students at the end of their clinical placements in 2014-15 were in a single – GMC developed - format for all clinical placements in all years of both the Cardiff University MB BCh course and the Swansea University GEM course. GMC Format : categorisation of feedback 3. The GMC Format questionnaire uses a five-point response scale (very good to very poor ; strongly agree to strongly disagree) to up to 36 individual questions by which students can rate a large variety of aspects of their clinical placement experience. The overall score for each question is calculated by assigning a numerical value to each point on the response scale, ie +2 (very good) to -2 (very poor). 4. The responses to the 36 individual questions (29 questions for all Modules plus 7 questions relating to “Preparedness for FY1 post”) are grouped into 15 Categories. The assignment of individual questions to specific categories is set out in Annex A. Within the possible range of scores for each category (from -2 to +2), four bands of scores have been identified. For ease of review, these 4 bands of scores have been colour-coded as follows : Score range Colour Code Designation of experience 1.56 to 2.00 Outstanding experience 0.56 to 1.55 Positive experience 0.01 to 0.55 Requires some improvement -2.00 to 0.00 Requires significant improvement Page 3 of 18 All Wales Summary CU & SU Clin Pl’cmt Evaln 2014-15 5. The results derived from the feedback on clinical placement experience collected from all medical students in 2014-15 are broadly set out in two ways in this Report : o results on a Placement (Module) basis – the rating of their experience by students for each individual Placement across all the Hospitals and other locations where that Placement was delivered ; o results on an individual Health Board and Location basis – the rating of their experience by students at a Location, principally a Hospital, for all the Placements delivered at that Location. Page 4 of 18 All Wales Summary CU & SU Clin Pl’cmt Evaln 2014-15 Cardiff University (“CU”) : student feedback in 2014-15 Summary of CU students’ responses by Year and by Placement 6.
