CHILDREN’S SHOWS / ACROBATICS / PHYSICAL THEATRE Curbside Presents Flight The Unauthorized Story Of The Little Prince NEW SEQUAL TO SAINT-EXUPÉRY’S CLASSIC DEFIES GRAVITY Flight springs to life through storytelling, physical theatre, and acrobatics to create a whimsical world inspired by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s classic children’s story The Little Prince. Our favorite pilot crashes on the Mexican coast while he’s searching for his lost friend, The Little Prince. Memories of twinkling stars transform into sand dunes, crashing waves, and far off islands as he remembers that what is most important can only be seen with the heart. Curbside, the company that brought Extinguish to fringe in 2010 (“The Next Big Thing!” –The List), returns with Flight, written by Ezra LeBank and Directed by Olivia Treviño. Using physical invention we harness the capacity of the human body to bring our story to life. We invite audiences of all ages (4+) to remember and discover the magical world of our imaginations. Curbside is led by LeBank, an internationally acclaimed professor of movement, and author of the newly released book CLOWNS (Routledge, UK). We play with mixed forms of movement and language to frisk unusual theatrical terrain. Curbside is based in Long Beach, California, and available for touring worldwide. We currently have availability in California during Fall 2015, and in the UK during Spring & Summer 2016. He had read the story as a child, but found a depth in the story during his second encounter with it. Like so many others, he found personal resonance in the journey to understand that the most important things in life are often not as they seem. The story sparked a question: Once a person has learned to look with their heart, what happens if they forget? How would they learn to remember? This question compelled Ezra to write a sequel in which the Pilot searches for the Little Prince six years after the original story in an effort to remember the lesson that he has since forgotten. In Spring 2015, Ezra invited two promising CSULB movement students, Cynthia Price and Taylor Casas, to perform with him. Shortly after, he recruited Olivia Treviño, CSULB alumnus, to direct the piece. Meanwhile, Ezra secured interest from three of Edinburgh’s leading venues, bringing the project goal for an August premiere in Scotland within reach! Based on his script, the company developed movement content, rehearsing from the humble-yetinspired space of Ezra’s garage-turned-movement-studio. The unconventional and open nature of the rehearsal space lent itself perfectly to the troupe’s investigation translating language into physical imagery, drawing on collective knowledge of acrobatics, circus, contact dance and other movement modalities. Flight will premiere at the 2015 Edinburgh International Festival Fringe, the largest arts festival in the world, taking place each August in Scotland’s capital. The 2015 festival was the largest arts festival in world history. Flight will premiere at Assembly Festival, often noted as one of the most prestigious venues in Edinburgh. Established 35 years ago, Assembly is known for producing and presenting a program of award-winning comedy, theatre, music, cabaret and dance from around the world. Their 2014 program consisted of 165 shows from six continents, including comedy talent such as Frank Skinner, Nina Conti and Jason Byrne, and new theatre including Blind Hamlet from Actors Touring Company and Title and Deed by Pulitzer Prize finalist and Fringe First winner Will Eno.
