In the wake of the front, the coldest air in several years will plunge into our area. This morning’s high temperatures mainly in the 50s and 60s will fall into the 40s this afternoon as northwesterly winds abruptly increase to 15-25 mph with higher gusts. The coldest weather of this outbreak will occur tonight and Tuesday morning, with low temperatures in the teens across inland locations, with low/mid 20s along the coast. In addition, brisk northwest winds near 15 mph, with occasional higher gusts, will drive wind chill readings during the predawn hours on Tuesday down to single digits inland and 10-15 degrees closer to the coast. Not much of a warm-up is expected Tuesday, with high temperatures only reaching 35-40 degrees. Northwest to northerly winds will remain in the 10-15 mph range, keeping wind chill values in the 20s and 30s most of the day. St. Johns County is under: - Wind chill warning will be in effect Tuesday from 4 am – 9 am. A Wind Chill Warning means the combination of very cold air and strong winds will create dangerously low wind chill values. This could result in frostbite, hypothermia and possibly death if precautions are not taken. - Hard freeze warning will be in effect Tuesday from 2 am until 9 am, with 6 to 12 hours of hard freeze conditions (temperatures 27 degrees or lower) possible. - Lake Wind Advisory – northwest winds of 20 - 25 mph, with gusts to 35 mph can be expected today. Today's Weather: Scattered showers, mainly before 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a temperature falling to around 47 by 5pm. Windy, with a northwest wind 16 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.
