GUIDELINES FOR THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE 14TH CROSS STRAITS SYMPOSIUM ON

ABSTRACT
This is where the abstract should be placed. It
should consist of one paragraph and give a concise
summary of the material in the main text. It is
preferable not to use footnotes in the abstract or
title; the acknowledgements for funding bodies
should be placed in a separate section at the end of
the main text.

1 INTRODUCTION
The proceedings will be printed as a book and will
be handed out at registration. To be able to make a
nice book that can be used by the participants in
the symposium with pleasure for many years, we
would like to receive the papers in a style that is as
uniform as possible. Therefore, we would like to
ask you to closely follow the instructions given in
the following section. In case your text editor does
not have the required settings, then please try to
reproduce these guidelines as well as possible.
2 INSTRUCTIONS FOR PRODUCING A
CAMERA-READY MANUSCRIPT
2.1 Standard settings
The document should be printed on standard letter
size A4 paper using double columns with side
margins of 25 mm and top and bottom margins of
20 mm.
The standard font for the document is: 10.5 point
Times (Roman), the standard line spacing should
be set 11 point exactly. Each section should have
no indentation. Superscripts and subscript should
be typed in 10 points Times (Roman).
Page numbers should be outside the text area, and
marked by pencil.
2.2 Title authors and addresses
The title should be typed in capital bold characters:
Times (Roman) 10.5 point, and should be center
aligned. In case more than one line is needed for
the title use standard line spacing of 18 point. Use
one blank line underneath the title.
The names of the authors should be typed in
capital characters; Times (Roman) 10.5 point (not
bold), and should be center aligned. The affiliation
and address should follow on the next line in italic
characters: Times (Roman) 10.5 point (not all
capital). If possible, start from the name of the
Department, followed by those of Graduate School
and University. In case the authors have different
affiliations then use a blank line between each
group of authors.
2.3 Abstract
The abstract should be typed in Times (Roman) 10
point, Using a 11 point line spacing. The abstract
should be not longer than one paragraph and
should give a concise summary of the main text.
2.4 Headings
For the headings please follow the style and
numbering as used in this document. First level
headings should be typed in bold: Times (Roman)
10.5 point, and should be followed by a 10 point
baseline skip. Second level headings should be
typed in italic; Times (Roman) 10.5 point.
2.5 Equations, tables and figures
Equations should be centered and numbered
consecutively, as in Eq. (1). The number should
appear between brackets and should be aligned at
the right side. Equation should be preceded by an
additional 10 point baseline skip and should also
be followed by a 10 point baseline skip:

Tables should have by definition single horizontal
lines at the top and bottom as well s single vertical
lines on the perimeter as shown in Table l. For the
inner lines of the table, it looks better if they are
kept to a minimum. The caption heading for the
Table should be typed in 10 point Times (Roman)
with a line spacing of 1l points. The caption
heading for the table should be placed at the top of
the table and should be both sides aligned.
Figures should be of clear quality. Please do not
use adhesive tape to glue figures to the correct
place but use photoglue instead. The figure should
be center aligned with respect to the main text. The
caption should be printed in Times (Roman) 10
point with a line spacing of 11 points, both sides
aligned and positioned below the figure. The figure
should be preceded by two blank line. Also use a
blank line between the figure and its caption. The
figures should be logically numbered (see Fig. 1)

punctuation mark (and not before). The footnote
and reference citation marks are typed. The
footnotes and references themselves should be
typed with: Times (Roman)10 points and line
spacing: 11 points. Two examples of multiple
citations that you may find useful are given here:
for citing several consecutive references, 1-4 and
for citing two nonconsecutive references.1,3
3 FINAL MANUSCRIPT
The final manuscript must be transformed into
a P D F f i l e a n d i t sh o u l d b e s en t t o

4 PAGE LIMIT
The number of pages for the proceedings of CSS is
limited to two for oral and poster presentations and
to four for the special lectures.
ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS
We would like to thank the International caffeine
Society for providing us the coins to feed our
coffee machines. Note that no section number is
used.
APPENDIX
In case only one appendix is used, it is not
necessary to give it a number. However, in case
more than one appendix is used; they should be
numbered Appendix A, Appendix B, etc.

2.6 Acknowledgements, appendices, footnotes and
reference
Acknowledgements to funding bodies etc. may be
placed in a separate section at end of the text,
before the Appendices (if used). The
Acknowledgement and Appendices sections should
not be numbered. It is preferable to have no
appendices in these brief conference proceedings,
but if they are necessary, they should be numbered
Appendix A, Appendix B, etc.
Footnotes should be denoted by a letter superscript
in the text. a The footnotes should be placed at the
bottom of the corresponding page.
References should be denoted by a number
superscript. 1 References should be placed at the
end of the document. Please note that the reference
numbers and footnote citations appear after the
