SUMMARY: The Communications Manager is responsible for the planning, oversight and
execution of the organization’s overall communications (print and electronic), public relations, and
marketing strategies. This position will create and/or assist in the development of written content
for EAST communications, marketing, events, development and programmatic needs. The
Communications Manager works with a variety of media and technical environments to advance
EAST’s mission and implementation of the strategic and operational plans.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Assist in the assessment and revisions of the organization’s communication plan in
coordination with Sr. Management and other working groups.
● Monitor, update and execute the organization’s communication plan including a Style

Guide for consistent messaging and communications in collaboration with the
organization’s strategic and operational goals.
Develop and manage various media relationships locally, regionally, and nationally
Manage and deploy mass mailing communications and databases
Support the organization by generating, editing, interviewing, and writing EAST
communications (e.g. printing, press releases, feature stories, social media, blogs,
workshop materials, event materials, e-magazine, e-blasts, project profiles, alumni
association, events, development, and marketing, etc.)
Provide support in the creation of above where necessary
Provide training and guidance to schools and EAST staff related to PR and marketing
Manage the EAST branded messaging, imaging and trademarks internally and externally
and the implementation of their use consistent across all EAST communications
Coordinate and collaborate with the Development office and the Events staff related to
media and publicity
Assist with EAST printing related negotiations and purchasing as applicable to related
projects
Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
● Strong writing, editing, proofreading, layout and design, professional printing/publishing
skills are essential, including ability to present concept verbally
● Strong knowledge and understanding of current trends in digital media/social media
● Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite software
● Basic knowledge of standard business practices
● Basic knowledge of standard business practices in the PR, commercial printing and
marketing industries
● Must be extremely detail-oriented and able to make sound decisions in a diverse and
changing job environment
● Must have excellent project management skills
● Ability to communicate with a diverse population of interested parties (staff, community●

based, facilitators, students, school administrators, business and government interests)
Ability to collaborate in teams
Must have a current, unrestricted drivers license
Must have the ability to travel by common carrier
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
● High School Diploma
● Postsecondary accreditation or equivalent preferably in a related field such as journalism,
public relations, or marketing. (2 year degree or diploma / 4 year degree, specific
certifications or accreditations in field) (preferred)
● Equivalent working experience and a high school diploma or equivalent may be
substituted.
● Prior experience in layout and design, public relations and/or marketing required
● Prior management experience a plus
● Nonprofit experience a plus
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
● English language: including punctuation, spelling, grammar, and writing technique
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills
REASONING ABILITY:
● Ability to problem solve using deductive reasoning skills in a timely manner
M ATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
● Basic skills including but not limited to addition, multiplication and division of whole
numbers, decimals and fractions
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
● Ability to periodically lift 35 pounds
● Ability to drive a car
