Not enough votes per bylaws for Zones 2 (academic administration)
and 3 (administrative services)
ACTION: Malissa will email a few members from Zone 3 to see if there
is interest in serving
Zone 2 still needs a zone leader; question as to whether Karen White
replaced Scott Strittmatter for Zone 3
Malissa stated that per HR, zones can be redefined; ACTION: process
to be reviewed at a later meeting
OLD BUSINESS
CONSTITUTION & BY-LAWS REVIEW

Constitution has to be approved by professional staff; by-laws are
voted on by pro staff council members
Documentation of proposed changes in IU Box – Prostaff Elections
Committee folder – Constitution Revisions Final Draft (Word
document)
Changes proposed due to inaccuracies and language use; also
changing committees (i.e., there is no “Professional Advisors”
committee)
ACTION: members to review final draft document and bring
suggestions/comments to next monthly meeting to be voted on (in
February)
NEW BUSINESS
TOM SMITH SCHOLARSHIP

Professional Staff Council co-presidents now manage the account
Need fundraising initiatives to raise money so award can be given out
(discussion of raising funds by participating in NCAA bracket – half of
money earned to go to winner; half to go to scholarship fund; or other
contests where participants have to guess something correctly to win)
ACTION: Malissa to speak with Dina Harris to see what fundraising
activities are allowed
ACTION: Malissa will create new scholarship application for council
review
ACTION: Council to decide in summer if award can/should be given
Tom Smith was a former director of Instructional Media Services
(IMS)
WINTER & SPRING EVENTS

All in favor of holding Spring Lunch event similar to fall and during
same times – Scotty to oversee this initiative – menu undecided at this
time
Also all in favor of holding social event for pro staff to encourage new
pro staff to meet their colleagues and staff council members – light
refreshments to be served, like cookies, coffee and water
Suggestion to hold professional development sessions that are open to
campus
- Joel can conduct a session on IU Box
- Maybe have session on exercise/stretching/nutrition
- Retirement planning / Benefits
Walking Challenge in conjunction with Bi-Weekly Staff Council will
start between February and April due to Stair Challenge initiated by
Healthy IU

Scott Strittmatter and Joel Langston are members of the Staff
Appreciation Committee this year – event will be on June 12
