Job Title Street Arts Outreach Project Co-ordinator Accountable to Arts Development Officer (Children and Young People) Personnel responsible for Street Arts Youth Worker, Street Arts Volunteer/s & small team of Professional Artists Wester Hailes, South West Edinburgh Thursday Evenings (4.30pm-9pm) 15.5 hours planning, training, supervision and reporting Location Hours of Work Summary of Post The Street Arts Project Co-ordinator will be responsible for managing a regular programme of performing and visual arts workshops for Children and Young People on location, working within the streets and housing estates of Westerhailes. The main aim of project is to work with hard to reach young people to provide them with positive, diversionary community based arts activities that address some of the issues that affect their lives. The street arts staff team will include the Project Co-ordinator, a Youth Worker, 1 or 2 volunteers and a core team of professional artists/tutors for particular sessions. Main Activities and Key Responsibilities Project Planning and Session Preparation Work with WHALE’s Arts Development Officer (Children and Young People) to help plan and develop the Street Arts programme and staff procedures. Provide training for Youth Worker, Volunteers and Artists on Street Arts procedures, health and safety and child protection. Prepare for the weekly programme of activities including organising session resources (WHALE’s mobile phone, digital camera, session notes) Brief all staff, volunteers and artists at the beginning of each session relating directly to the session aims and objectives Co-ordinate the programme of creative activities including youth consultation Take part in relevant professional development training including Outreach Staff Training and Child Protection Training and First Aid Training Support the Youth Worker to collate information on relevant youth provision at WHALE, the local area and city wide in order to help sign post young people onto these programmes Work with the Arts Development Officer to complete Risk Assessments for the outreach project and comply with these at all times in sessions Use WHALE’s mobile phone to send texts to the Arts Development Officer as a means of checking in and signing out of every outreach session During Sessions 1 Manage the weekly programme of creative activities Manage session resources including WHALE’s digital camera, mobile phone, Street Arts bag which includes the project folder and the art materials needed for the session (along with the artist) Support timetabled artists/tutors to deliver sessions Motivate, encourage and support young people to participate fully Street Art sessions Record participation of young people in sessions including name, age and postcode data where relevant Manage the project volunteer/s in sessions and work in partnership with the project youth worker Facilitate youth consultation with participants after every session, collecting information from young people regarding their participation and ideas for future sessions in imaginative and engaging ways Make sure you and your staff comply with Health and Safety procedures at all times on outreach sessions to keep everyone safe including artists and participants Ensure you have a good understanding and comply with WHALE’s Child Protection Policy regarding documenting and reporting disclosures by participants Ensure you comply with WHALE’s policy on documenting and reporting incidents that take place on outreach sessions with regards assaults and/or inappropriate behaviour by staff/artists/participants Report any incidents of anti-social or offending behavior around the site to site security or police as per set procedures. Promote WHALE’s Street Arts programme to young people and to parents and members of the community whenever possible on sessions Identify any relevant issues or areas of development that need to be flagged up and report them to the Arts Development Officer on an ongoing basis After Sessions Work with the Street Arts team to complete written evaluation forms after each session Produce a weekly report including detail of activity and participants and any available tracking information Other Duties Work in collaboration with the Arts Development Officer to curate and promote 2 high quality presentation of the young people’s work each year Complete a report on the project at the close of each year, including the production of a high quality documentation of the project, information on participations and available tracking data. Attend Support and Supervision sessions with the Arts Development Officer. 2
