Quan and I went to Center of Art to visit the exhibit “Serial investigations in Sculpture” at the Weil Gallery. I knew about Steve Reynolds (1949 – 2007) who is an international artist. “Serial investigation in Sculpture” is an important career of Steve Reynolds. This exhibition presents examples from groups of works produced in studios such as Black Stacks in the middle of room. They were made from 1997 to 1998. I saw four stacks, but I do not understand what the meaning is? These ideas like from ancient, I think. Next, it is Kettle Pots. There are nineteen kettle pots which were made by glaze and unglazed with salt fried ceramic. They are made from 1975 to 2005. Besides Kettle Pots, they are Plumbs which was glazed ceramic and they were hanging by the cord. Both plumbs made in 1996. On the wall, eleven equinox porcelains were put on. The next thing is Courtship Tableaux which were made in 1986 and they were mixed by ceramic, epoxy, wood dowels and paint. There name was Little Ochre Ball and Conquest. On the right hand, I saw seven Cortona Bronzes which were made in 1989. They were casted bronze with platina. Next to Cortona Bronzes, it is Aleph: Australia. It made from 2001 to 2005 and painted ceramic. In addition, Aleph was made in Adelaide , south Australia. There has five types of Aleph : Obituary (2001- 2005) and mixed media, Hunters (2001-2005) which were cassius basaltic clay and mixed media, Polychrome Figures (2001-2005) which was glazed and painted ceramic, and White Porcelain Figures in 2001 was made by porcelain. Next it is very special that are gifts for Daphne who is Steve’s wife. He made from 1974 to 2007, it was a long time. Then I saw 27 etudes which put on the left wall. Steve made them by porcelain and in 2000. He also made an Elaborated Wire Work: First Part in 1998. It was wired with clay and mixed media. Running head: SERIAL INVESTIGATIONS IN SCULPTURE 3 At the corner, nine Black Birds, which were made in 2002, were unglazed cassisus basaltic clay. Next there are four Porsgrund Porcelain which were made in 1995 Porsgrund, Norway. Steve mixed porcelain with gold and silver dust. I saw four Porcelain Gestures in 1998 next to seven Stained Porcelain Tableaux in 1991 which included stained porcelain, glaze, and epoxy. At the right corner, three Kecskemet Porcelains (1990 – 1991) were made in Kecskemet, Hungary and six White Birds were stained porcelain in 2005. Next six White Birds, twelve Wire Elements in glass box, which were made in 2001 and wire with mixed media. I saw the Vinci like a colorful picture and I do not understand the words mean. Vinci includes Kant and Daw kind of mixed media. Two last things in the room are four Small Square Tiles was made in 2004 and included ceramic Tile with glaze, paint, and glass; last thing is Large Tiles were made in 2004 too. Steve mixed same with Small Square Tile but they have their own name not a number such as: Rooster, Alesund, Istanbul, Rose, Oslo, Number 3. From the exhibition, I understood more about sculpture also knew Steve beliefs that clay is strong artistic tool. I also like some things which do not have exactly shape but make me think a lot.
