DOUGLAS RUGBY CLUB Job Title: Player/Coach/Chief Executive Designate Department: Executive Director/Board Location: Douglas Rugby Club Travel Required: Travel on Saturdays during season for League Fixtures Position Type: Full-Time Port-e-Chee Douglas Isle of Man IM2 2RA Level/Salary Range: Reporting to: Chairman/President Job Description ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES Reporting to the Board of Directors and working with the Chairman and President, the Player/Coach/Chief Executive Designate is responsible for promoting the success of the Club by: Giving direction and leadership to the players, coaches and key stakeholders to enable achievement of the Club's philosophy, mission and strategy; Specifically giving direction and leadership to the players, coaches and key stakeholders to enable achievement of the Club's senior playing objectives in terms of sustainable promotion and RFU league participation Helping the Board determine and implement the Club’s values, mission, vision, and short- and long-term goals and objectives; Keeping the Board fully informed on the condition of Club and on all the important factors influencing it. Identifying problems and opportunities and addressing them; informing the Board and its committees about trends, issues, problems and activities in order to facilitate decision-making, and Recommending and providing strategic direction and enabling the Board to execute its governance function. The main accountabilities are: Rugby Committee Administration and Support -- Chair meetings of the Club's Rugby Committee to assure a smoothly functioning, efficient playing environment of the Club at all levels Board Administration and Support -- Provides general oversight of all the Club's activities and assures a smoothly functioning, efficient Club. Working in conjunction with the Treasurer, supports operations and administration of Board by advising and informing Board members, interfacing between Board, bar stewardess and volunteers Program, Product and Service Delivery -- Oversees design, marketing, promotion, delivery and quality of programs, products and services specific to rugby with a view to achieving the Club's objectives Financial and Facilities Management -- Recommends annual budget for Board approval and prudently manages the Club’s resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and regulations Human Resource Management -- Effectively manages the human resources of the Club according to authorised personnel policies and procedures that fully conform to current laws and regulations Community and Public Relations within the Isle of Man -- Assures the Club and its objectives, programs, products and services are consistently presented in a strong and positive image Player Coach Role As Head Coach builds a sustainable network of coaching support to achieve Club objectives Provides leadership on the pitch consistent with the Club objectives. 1 DOUGLAS RUGBY CLUB Assures coaching quality and the Club stability through development and implementation of new and interesting sessions with regular evaluation. Assures a playing environment that recruits, retains and supports quality players. Assures process for selecting, development, motivating, and evaluating players. Specifies accountabilities for coaching team and evaluates performance regularly. Attend Junior training sessions on Sundays and encourage senior players to volunteer to assist Club RDO Role Assures a total Club environment that recruits, retains and supports players at all levels. Assures a Club profile within the Isle of Man which encourages recruitment of players at all levels. Working with the Board to ensure financing to support short and long-term playing goals. Promoting effective recruitment programs in a cost-effective manner to achieve targets Chief Executive Officer Designate Role Take responsibility, review and amend Club systems and procedures as appropriate to better achieve Club objectives With the Chairman and President, focus Board and Committee attention on long-range strategic issues for the Club. Working with the Chairman to enable the Board to fulfill its governance functions and facilitating the optimum performance by the Board, its committees and individual Board members. Managing the Board’s responsibility to the RFU to ensure timely attention to core issues and reports. Working with the Board officers, committee members and volunteers to get the best thinking and to encourage all to give his or her best. Recommending volunteers to come forward to sit on the Board and its committees. Helping the Board monitor and evaluate the Club's effectiveness, and its results. Keeping the Board fully informed on the condition of the Club and on all the important factors influencing it. Identifying problems and opportunities and addressing them; bringing those which are appropriate to the Board and/or its committees; and, facilitating discussion and deliberation. Informing the Board and its committees about trends, issues, problems and activities in order to facilitate policy-making. Recommending policy positions. Assisting in the organisation and staffing of TT and TT Classic campsites which are a key fundraiser for the Club. A high level of interpersonal skills is required to make formal, persuasive presentations to groups and to deal effectively with people.
